Since the success of One Piece’s live-action series, many anime and manga series are planning to release their live-action adaptation. This includes Yu Yu Hakusho, a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. Another attempt to adapt a beloved manga or anime for the live-action screen will soon see Yu Yu Hakusho make its live-action series debut on Netflix.
Similar to the manga and anime, the series narrates the tale of Yusuke, an adolescent who met his demise in an accident while trying to save the life of a child. He is brought back to life to assume the role of “Spiritual Detective,” assigned to combat the dangers posed by the Underworld.
Yu Yu Hakusho, which is being directed by Shô Tsukikawa and features visual effects by Scanline, stars Takumi Kitamura as the rambunctious Yusuke Urameshi. He is joined in the cast by Jun Shison as Kurama, Shûhei Uesugi as Kazuma Kuwabara, and Kanata Hongô as Hiei. In an interview, Kitamura explained why the show would break barriers and would emerge successful.
Takumi Kitamura Explains Why The Show Will Be Successful
In a behind-the-scenes interview with Netflix, which featured the making of Yu Yu Hakusho, Kitamura talked about how all the actors, director, and every member on set have worked really hard to make the show successful. He stated:
“I think all the actors worked hard. The director, the action director Mr. Ouchi, and the crew members worked hard. Everyone respected this project very much, and we were given a lot of time to work on it. We’re here all because of these people, and we’re going to present this show to the world.”
According to him, every member respected the project very much and they have given a lot of time and hard work for the series and because of this hard work, they will be able to present this show to the world.
Yu Yu Hakusho Live-Action Deeply Follows The Manga
According to Kitamura, the live-action series follows the source very deeply. He stated that because the script followed Yu Yu Hakusho to the core, it took him a lot of time to get into that. He said:
“The acting part was a very fresh experience for me. And the script follows and gives much respect to the original manga. It was all very Yu Yu Hakusho. It was quite tough for me to get into that in the time I was given. A delinquent character like that could be a bit outdated, but I need to play it in the modern era.”
Yu Yu Hakusho has long been regarded as one of the greatest anime series ever, and now that the countdown is officially underway, excitement about the live-action version of the series has only grown. On Thursday, December 14, 2023, at midnight PT, Yu Yu Hakusho’s live-action film will debut on Netflix.
