Unlike his Avengers peers, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth hasn’t exactly triumphed outside the realm of MCU, with notable exceptions being Extraction 1 & 2. While the actor did try to go the traditional route that movie stars followed back in the ’80s and ’90s and made a string of dramas after the success of Avengers, things didn’t pan out.
But this might finally change with the actor’s upcoming action-adventure Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, in which instead of playing the traditional hero, he is going to play the film’s villain, Immortan Joe. And per the actor, compared to his other action flicks, including Extraction and MCU movies, filming under George Miller was a fresh experience.
Every Frame in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Is Essential to the Overall Narrative
Since the franchise’s inception in 1979, every entry in the franchise hasn’t failed to hit the mark, with the last installment, Mad Max: Fury Road, cementing itself as one of the greatest action films ever. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that filming a Mad Max movie under George Miller was vastly different than his previous experiences, as Hemsworth explained every shot in the film has a meaning. Set to take place before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road, which will serve as a prequel to Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa, the film will witness Hemsworth playing a villainous role.
And while most modern action blockbusters resort to large-scale action with no substance inside, this won’t be the case for George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The Thor: Ragnarok Star explained every frame was thought out and had a purpose in the overall narrative, which made the filming process refreshing for the actor. He told Comicbook.com,
“Everything you see is essential, and means something, and supports the characters’ journey, the narrative, the overall arc of the film, and it was exhausting in the best way. All of us showed up and were willing to commit and throw ourselves on the line to service this journey and this film and this franchise that has existed for forty-something years now.”
Like Hemsworth, witnessing the actor playing a villainous part instead of the standard hero will also be refreshing for fans, and the Thor Star’s description of his character has got fans intrigued.

Chris Hemsworth’s Character in Furiosa Is a Complete 180 Compared to His Past Roles
Born from the Wasteland, Immortan Joe is a charismatic brutal psychopath per Chris Hemsworth, a complete 180 from the heroic figures he has portrayed in the past. Speaking at the CCXP (Via X)He explained,
“He’s [a] violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the wasteland. He’s a product of his environment. There’s an intensity to him… he has been birthed into a space where it’s kill or be killed and he has learned to rule with an iron fist. There’s a charisma to him and it’s a very manipulative charisma.”
Following the impact of the last entry in the franchise, which garnered six Oscar wins under its belt, which is unheard of when it comes to action flicks, one can be optimistic about the upcoming movie.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is set to hit theatres on 24 May 2024.
