Helldivers 2 is quickly becoming a huge sensation thanks to its unexpected success. Pretty much everyone is talking about it, and the CEO of its developer, Arrowhead Gamer Studios, cannot stop responding to fans on Twitter/X. With numerous gamers playing this game at the moment, it’s no surprise that pretty much everyone is talking about it online.
This huge fanbase also means that among such a high number of fans, people have already started finding ways to compare it with some other successful games. One such comparison comes from one of this game’s most notorious locations, Malevelon Creek.
Helldivers 2 fans cannot help but compare Malevelon Creek to the Fall of Reach in Halo
For those unaware, Helldivers 2 takes players through various planets. Numerous enemies are fought on those distant planets controlled by different types of enemies. One such location is called Malevelon Creek, which is controlled by the Automatons faction.
This is a group of armored robots that are relentless when they fight. And the location they control is nothing short of treacherous; it is a planet covered with vast forests. And that’s why winning a war on this planet against a bunch of relentless robots becomes a bit tricky.
Players all over the world have been fighting on this planet. They have been struggling to take back control from these automatons for weeks, but now, after all that struggle, they have lost. Automatons have the planet for now, and no doubt fans are not happy.
They have found their own way of dealing with this loss. Some of the fans have named this location “Robot Vietnam.” This name fits this location perfectly too; it’s a ruthless place full of difficult enemies to fight. On the other hand, it’s covered with lush jungle. And to add to the feeling of being in Vietnam, the war on this planet has been lost.
Other fans have started comparing this location to the Reach in Halo. Fans of the sci-fi shooter might remember how Reach was lost to the Covenant. Over the years, people have blamed that loss on several things, one of which was those immobile ODPs in geosynchronous orbit around the planet.
For fans who are unaware, Helldivers 2 has its own living, breathing narrative director. He is responsible for every direction that this ongoing war takes. He is also responsible for deciding how many reinforcements a force gets when things get too easy for the player.
This makes the game the center of an ongoing, dynamic conflict. A conflict is being controlled by a person who is especially being hired to make sure this conflict stays interesting enough. It has to be seen how long it takes for the players to win this ongoing war, though, as it’s a live service game, and this conflict is basically its bread and butter.
Still, no matter how long it goes, it’s good to see it being compared to bigwigs like Halo. This shows that Helldivers 2 has the potential to be something even bigger.
The Helldivers 2 fanbase is pretty vocal about this loss
Alongside comparing this loss to one of the biggest and most disheartening events in gaming history, fans have also decided to let people know their feelings on Twitter/X.
The UNSC lost reach.

Malevelon Creek is this generation’s Reach or Cadia. I’m pretty convinced this planet wasn’t meant to be taken this early given how basically no progress was ever made on it

This goes to show that no matter how long this game stays as popular as it is today, it will be remembered for the loss players suffered on Malevelon Creek.
