Originally released on November 14, 2018, it’s been almost five years since Fallout 76 made its debut, and to call it less than ideal would be an understatement. In fact, Bethesda’s role-playing title was met with extremely average reviews, especially because of all the hype that was surrounding the game before its launch. Of course, the studio behind the highly anticipated RPG is no stranger to controversial releases, so it wasn’t exactly surprising that the Fallout prequel met the same fate.

However, through its consistent support for the game, Bethesda somehow managed to change the gaming community’s opinions about Fallout 76. Although all the odds were stacked against it and the RPG was destined to get lost in pure oblivion, it never truly died and is more alive than ever. Naturally, the studio is celebrating its reawakened title’s fifth anniversary by giving fans and new players a full week during which they can play the game completely free.

Fallout 76 being fully free to play during this whole week is not the only way in which Bethesda is celebrating its game’s upcoming fifth anniversary. In addition to the free week, fans of the franchise can also get their hands on plenty of signature goodies from the Fallout series.

Although there are still a couple of weeks to go before the action role-playing multiplayer title officially turns five, Bethesda is letting the gaming community know just how proud it is of its creation by starting the celebrations a little too early.

From the game being completely free to play to various acquirable items, from hunting numerous costumed mobs to sharing candy bowls with one another, the Fallout 76 fifth anniversary celebrations have only just begun, with a lot more to come in the weeks leading up to November 14.

For those who have been reluctant to play the Fallout prequel instalment due to the horrendous reviews it received at launch, this is a perfect opportunity to try the game out for six whole days, just to see if it is up their lane. Bethesda’s controversial but, to some extent, redeemed action RPG is available free of charge on all major platforms, including Steam, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PlayStation 4 and 5, until October 30.

Gamers who opt to test Fallout 76 out for free will have complete access to its post-apocalyptic and destroyed world, destructive Appalachia setting, various main and side quest lines, plenty of multiplayer events, and all the content that the regular players of the game would have with the bought version. But that brings up the question of whether a week is enough time to properly experience an expansive multiplayer title like the Fallout prequel.

For those worried about leaving their adventures halfway through, Bethesda is offering a delicious cherry on top of an already great deal.

Taking the pre-fifth anniversary celebrations up a notch, Bethesda has graciously decided to put a massive 80% discount on Fallout 76 on all digital platforms, including Steam, PlayStation Store, and Microsoft Store. Before the huge sale, the standard edition of the game was priced at $39.99, but it is now available for just $7.99 until October 31. To make things even sweeter, The Pitt Deluxe edition of the action role-playing title can also be bought during this period at an astounding 67% off.

Fallout 76: The Pitt Deluxe edition was originally priced at $36.99 on Steam and $59.99 on both the Xbox and PlayStation digital stores. However, after the 67% discount which will also last until the end of this month, it can be purchased for $12.20 on Steam and $19.79 on the aforementioned consoles.

The celebrations were announced by the official Fallout X account while also wishing fans of the long-running franchise a “Happy Fallout Day.”

According to the post on X, the Fallout 76 fifth anniversary celebrations “will continue through November,” so fans should have a lot more to look forward to in the coming weeks. For example, from November 7 onwards, players will be able to claim a fresh new Birthday Suit to dress for the celebratory occasion. It is not just for decoration purposes, either, as wearing the suit while completing numerous special daily challenges will unlock unique rewards.
