There are few Call of Duty games that achieved the level of perfection with their narratives and Black Ops was one of them. The games have one of the best scripts in the franchise’s history, as well as gaming itself. The game was released in 2010 and drew a whole new wave of fans.

Mason, Reznov, and the company push forward to a new level of narrative that no player thought an FPS could achieve. On Reddit, some enigmas from the game about Mason’s brainwashing are still alive and they still can not figure some things out.

Back when the franchise was not suffering from a lack of real and new content, Treyarch really accomplished one of the best stories in gaming with the release of Black Ops. The Call of Duty game had an amazing espionage plot mixed with impressive gaming and spectacular characters.

To this date, some fans are not sure what the right answer is for one of the main protagonists of the game. This game continues to spark discussions among fans, particularly when they witness Mason’s involvement in one of the most pivotal moments in American history, the JFK assassination.

Fans frequently discuss this on Reddit, questioning the character’s motivations. The brainwashing was too powerful, and this US soldier couldn’t fully get out of it. The lore of this game is deep and astonishing.

The Franchise Needs to Get back to Its Storytelling Roots

Treyarch has the opportunity to make another great game.

In the Reddit thread, the whole discussion began again. Some fans were asking if Mason just made up Reznov from nothing, doubting if this character was ever real. One of these fans claims that Mason developed a split personality due to the brainwashing attempt.

This can make a lot of sense, especially once the game has ended, making this character very mentally unbalanced. Treyarch should incorporate these unanswered questions into any future game they develop. Black Ops was one of the few games that made the entire Hollywood treatment right, with A-list talent for the voices of the characters that made the game story astonishing.

Few other Call of Duty titles have accomplished that level of storytelling, making the player feel part of the story. According to rumors, the next Call of Duty title will be Black Ops Gulf War, which is supposed to happen after the second title in the saga.

Neither Treyarch nor Activision Blizzard confirmed this; there are no real details about the next chapter in the franchise. Fans are expecting a much more developed story and gameplay, something that MW3 could not deliver, as it is one of the worst games in this IP.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
