Although most fans might brush past Hanks’ cameo in the series, actor Tim McGraw who led the show’s cast was nervous about filming alongside Hanks. Tom Hanks’ Yellowstone Cameo Had Tim McGraw Worrying
Tom Hanks makes a cameo appearance in the Yellowstone prequel series 1883. The series is set in the titular year and explores the Dutton family’s journey to the land that would eventually become their revered Yellowstone Ranch. Hanks appears in the second episode of the series, titled Behind Us, a Cliff.
In the episode, Hanks plays the role of General George Meade. He comforts Tim McGraw‘s James Dutton after a brutal battle during the American Civil War. Although Meade and Dutton are on opposite sides, the gnarly aftermath of the war leads to both men finding comfort.
Moreover, Hanks portrays Meade’s reassurance without speaking a word making the cameo noteworthy. During an interview with CinemaBlend, Tim McGraw spoke about filming the emotionally intense scene with Hanks.
“You never want to botch a scene when you got Tom Hanks in there with you.”
McGraw made the above comment replying to a question about whether he intentionally botched takes to keep Hanks on the sets longer. However, McGraw’s comment indicates that it was nerve-racking for him to film the scene. McGraw’s feelings are understandable given he is primarily a singer and Hanks is an Academy Award-winning actor.
