The Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer confirmed that fans will be introduced to Arthur Curry’s son. With Black Manta coming after his family, fans are now worried if filmmakers will adapt this major comic book lore where Black Manta kills Arthur Curry’s son. Many argue that it is a tragic and unnecessary event so DC will probably not include it in a PG-13 movie.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom‘s test screenings have been a disaster as people have walked out. The filmmakers only have one month to make the final changes in the movie in order to make it more exciting for the audience. Adapting this comic book lore would certainly put a spotlight on the movie, so it’s entirely up to DC if they add this to the movie.

In the comics, Black Manta killed Arthur Curry’s son in the storyline called Death of a Prince in Adventure Comics #452. In the storyline, Black Manta took an underwater city hostage and captured Arthur Curry Jr. in a sphere that slowly filled with air, and as Atlanteans can only be out of the water for a period of time, he died.

Now fans wonder if the creators of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will adapt this storyline on the big screen as Black Manta is coming after his family in the upcoming movie. The storyline would certainly be very tragic for a PG-13 movie but if it happened in the comics, they wouldn’t mind adapting it on the big screen.

Projections have revealed that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is expected to earn somewhere between $32-42 million domestically on its opening weekend. If this projection turns out to be true, the film will be one of the worst-performing films in the history of DC. Considering DC has spent roughly $205 million on the film so far, it will be a massive financial loss for them.

There is still roughly a month until the film’s release, so filmmakers still have time to make some changes. The disastrous test screenings forced the filmmakers to make several reshoots but the result has been the same. With back-to-back flops from DC, only James Gunn’s soft reboot can save the franchise.
