The installation of patch 0.14.0.0 has begun. The installation will take approximately 6 hours, but may be extended if required. The game will not be accessible during this period.

The update will also be accompanied by a wipe, resetting settings to default, and removing almost all users’ progress. However, the latest update doesn’t affect the Arena DLC for Tarkov or the player’s progress. The announcement was made on December 27. As it happened, many players of the title took to the comments section to voice their requests to make some changes to the title.

One of the players wrote that they wanted supply drops to be louder to ensure the players appropriately heard them. Some even had more elaborate requests to make in the comment section, such as:

I swear to all that is holy, if they reworked[sic] shoreline and still didnt[sic] fix the indestructible floodlights im[sic] flying to russia[sic] and pouring sand on the devs[sic] mousepads.

The others even recommended that people not buy the title if they opt for the Arena DLC due to the disparity among the weapon builds. They said that players already have access to overpowered weapons and will dominate the game, and the only way to get better guns is to win, which is next to impossible.

Some players were even asking if the wipe would be implemented with the update, would be applied to all of the players at once, or would be rolled out progressively. Some even asked for access to Arena mode while the update was underway. Some users complained that after the update took place, they tried playing arenas but couldn’t due to a network error. Some users complained that the game did not give a prior warning about the wipe, and it changed their key bindings, which will now be reset.

The entire changelog for the update and wipe can be read here. Listed below are some of the significant changes that the patch will bring to the title:

  • New Location: Ground Zero
    • A new location has been added to the title, which is being called Ground Zero. It is present in the center of the city, Tarkov, which is the primary setting of the title. The new location is rife with architecture and constructions resembling present-day cities. Apart from this, a concrete jungle is formed by towering buildings in Tarkov.
    • It is worth noting that players from any faction falling in levels 1 through 20 can access this area. Private Military Company members won’t be able to access the location if their level is beyond 20, while the level cap won’t bind Scavengers or Scavs.
    • More importantly, beginners and novices can know that visual cues will guide them around Ground Zero.
  • New Boss: Kollontay
    • The patch is all set to introduce a new boss named Kollontay. Kollontay is not someone to be messed with, as he is known for being a “vile” man. His means and methods were so grotesque that even his coworkers used to be petrified of his demeanor.
    • It is stated that his favorite interrogation method involves using his favorite tool: a rubber baton.
    • His brawn and courage made him a force to be reckoned with. After the TerraGroup fiasco, he began roaming the streets of Tarkov with his gang, indulging in thieving and using threatening behavior. And in doing so, Kollontay became the very force he vowed to fight against.
    • Kollontay’s lore, published officially by devs, also says he has good relations with influential people like Kaban. The former’s whereabouts are usually around the Klimov Shopping Mall and Tarkov Academy.
  • Kaban’s new guards
    • Kaban is one of the most well-known bosses in the title, and now getting to him is even more complex thanks to his new guards named Basmach and Gus. These two are Kaban’s most trusted people who small-timed as illegal street racers for fun.
    • They aren’t afraid to lay down their lives or hunt down anyone for Kaban’s safety. Both are known for wielding melee weapons, with Basmach being a machete enthusiast and Gus. Being a crowbar aficionado.
  • New weapons– The update adds a lot of additional weapons, which are the following:
    • KBP 9A-91
    • KBP VSK-94 9×39
    • SIG MCX SPEAR 6.8×51
    • Degtyarev RPD 7.62×39
    • Degtyarev RPDN 7.62×39

While some elements, like player settings, will be wiped out with the update, new elements, including new bosses, guards, locations, and guns, will be added. All of this is enough is enough incentive to check out the title if one hasn’t yet. Escape From Tarkov is now available for purchase on PC only.
