Jennifer Holland has been subjected to massive internet trolling after her character started to pop in almost every DC project. This trend started mainly after her husband and renowned filmmaker James Gunn entered the world of Superman as the director of The Suicide Squad. He cast Holland in the role of agent Emilia Harcourt who appeared in a bunch of DC films before finally announcing her absence from the upcoming Superman: Legacy.

Since the repetitive inclusion of Jennifer Holland in numerous DC movies, James Gunn was often accused of nepotism by the fandom. Besides The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, she also appeared in Black Adam and Shazam 2. Now recently when the director was asked about his wife’s casting in Superman: Legacy, Gunn was quick to dismiss it.

James Gunn is often accused of nepotism for repeatedly casting his wife Jennifer Holland and brother Sean Gunn in his projects. While Emilia Harcourt’s frequent DC appearances already irritated the fans, they were more shocked when Holland also appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After Gunn was made the co-head of the new DCU, the fans expected him to include her more in the universe.

Looks like the trend is potentially near its end as the director recently took to his Threads account to announce Emilia Harcourt’s absence from the 2025 movie.

This led to several fans taking over social media platforms to pass some of the most hilarious remarks. But on the other hand, some super thoughtful fans also pointed out that James Gunn has only mentioned Emilia Harcourt’s absence but not Jennifer Holland’s which might hint that she can be seen as someone else.

Even though she is slated to appear in the upcoming Season 2 of Peacemaker as well as the new Waller series centered around Amanda Waller, the possibility of Holland playing someone else can’t be dismissed completely. This possibility gained more weight recently after Nathan Fillion was cast as the Green Lantern who also played The Detachable Kid in The Suicide Squad.

But the update of Emilia Harcourt’s absence from Superman: Legacy even turned funnier when the fans sarcastically concluded that this decision might lead him to sleep on the couch for the upcoming few nights.

It was clear that most fans experienced a ‘Jennifer Holland-fatigue’ in every James Gunn project. Even though nepotism isn’t a new thing in any industry, it doesn’t attract much appreciation from fans. Given the role of Emilia Harcourt in the universe, fans have also admitted that she is not so important to be seen in every other DC movie.

We have collected some tweets to show the reaction of the fans:

Now as the fans are having their bit of fun, it must also be noted that despite losing Superman: Legacy, Jennifer Holland is most likely to appear in the upcoming DCU projects. James Gunn announced that work on Peacemaker Season 2 will only start after David Corenswet’s Superman movie is complete.

Superman: Legacy directed by James Gunn is slated to release on July 11, 2025.
