It appears Sony has no intentions of releasing a second trailer for their upcoming release Madame Web, which is just two weeks away from hitting the big screens. Set to be the latest installment in Sony’s cinematic universe revolving around Spider-Man foes, fans will hope the Dakota Johnson-led movie finally gives this universe a sense of direction.
But while the first trailer released by Sony for the upcoming superhero flick was met with less than stellar reception, they’re definitely not dropping the ball with the posters.
Sony Isn’t Dropping the Ball With Madame Web’s Posters
Although movie posters have become more of an afterthought in the mainstream landscape and are nowhere near any of Roger Kastel’s works, Madame Web is presenting itself as a breath of fresh air. So far, the posters released have been met with praise by fans, which can’t be said for its trailer. The new poster released is once again stellar, even if people with Arachnophobia might beg to differ.
With Cobwebs on the sides and a Spider hanging in front of her eye, the poster perfectly encapsulates the tone previously director S.J. Clarkson teased, grounded and gritty, which also clicked with Dakota Johnson. Johnson told Entertainment Weekly:
“It was really important to me that she’s really human and grounded in reality, and that her life feels like, ‘Oh, I can relate to that… Sometimes it’s hard to relate to someone shooting lasers out of their eyes.”
Having previously helmed episodes for Jessica Jones and The Defenders, Clarkson explained the character of Cassie will be more in line with Jessica Jones, as both are loners and a bit abrasive.
Dakota Johnson Faced One Major Challenge Filming Madame Web
Considering Dakota Johnson had no prior experience in the superhero landscape or any big-budget action productions, acting in front of the blue screen was a completely new experience for her. But while Johnson had her fair share of struggles adapting to it and had doubts about her performance in the movie, she trusted the judgment of S.J. Clarkson. She said:
“I’ve never really done a movie where you are on a blue screen, and there’s fake explosions going off, and someone’s going, ‘Explosion!’ and you act like there’s an explosion… That to me was absolutely psychotic. I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an OK job!… But I trusted [Clarkson],”
While the predictions surrounding the film’s box-office performance are not exactly promising, fans will hope the end product is more in line with the poster than the trailer.
Madame Web will debut in theatres on 16 February 2024
