Fantastic Four is one of the most hyped upcoming projects in the MCU. New reports state that we may get to see Galactus and more interestingly, a female Silver Surfer as the antagonists of the movie. With the inclusion of Anya Taylor-Joy in the cast, it looks like the reports might turn out to be true.
We have seen Silver Surfer aka Norrin Radd in Marvel’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. However, this was the time when the rights of the characters were with 20th Century Fox. The movie was also a critical and commercial flop as well. As the group is now ready for their MCU debut, we may get to watch a different version of the Silver Surfer.
Will Anya Taylor-Joy be the Silver Surfer in MCU’s Fantastic Four?
After getting prominent roles in projects like The Witch, Queen’s Gambit, Last Night in Soho, and Peaky Blinders, Anya Taylor-Joy is now reportedly eyed for a villainous role in the MCU. Soon after the news went viral on the internet, it was highly rumored that she would play a gender-flipped Silver Surfer in MCU’s Fantastic Four. Even though there have been no official reports yet, it was being reported by another trusted insider Jeff Sneider (via
that we will get a female Silver Surfer in the MCU.Some times earlier, Jeff Sneider also reported that Pedro Pascal would be Mister Fantastic aka Reed Richards in the MCU. On the other hand, he listed Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the possible castings for Sue Storm, Human Torch, and The Thing.
It can’t be denied that a few eyebrows were raised regarding the casting of Anya Taylor-Joy as the female Silver Surfer. However, the fans must know that Norrin Radd isn’t the only Herald of Galactus in Marvel Comics. There have been others and most significantly some female Heralds as well.
What will be the role played by Anya Taylor-Joy in the MCU?
There has been a buzz on the internet since we got the news that the MCU will gender-flip another iconic character on their bandwagon. Although it’s not the first time for them, some fans were either unhappy or utterly confused. But it must be noted that Norrin Radd was neither the only Silver Surfer nor the only Herald of Galactus in Marvel Comics.
The character originated when a young astronomer Norrin Radd from Zenn-La planet sacrificed himself to the planet-devouring supervillain Galactus to save his home planet and become his Herald Silver Surfer. He used to search for planets to devour for his master until he came to Earth and faced a moral transition after facing the Fantastic Four and even becoming one of their allies.
However, this same role was also portrayed by a female Frankie Raye in Marvel Comics. Once a love interest to Human Torch, Frankie Raye also became a Herald named Nova under Galactus to save Earth. While there is a large possibility for Taylor-Joy to play Frankie Raye, Juno might also be a possibility.
Juno didn’t appear for a significant time in the comics and became the Silver Surfer in Earth-829 when she agreed to offer her service to Galactus. Now it will be seen if Anya Taylor-Joy appears in either of the roles in the MCU. Additionally, Jeff Sneider has also reported that Javier Bardem might play the role of Galactus in the MCU.
Fantastic Four will hit the theaters on May 2, 2025.
