Despite his heroic (and tragic) demise in Stranger Things Season 4, Eddie Munson might not be gone for good. Played by Joseph Quinn, Eddie was a student at Hawkins High School and the unique leader of the Hellfire Club, a group centered around Dungeons & Dragons.

He also rocked out on his electric guitar in his band, Corroded Coffin, and was pals with Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, and Mike Wheeler. Sadly, Eddie sacrificed himself, but there’s a chance he might come back somehow.

Fans are eagerly speculating about Quinn’s potential return in the final season of Stranger Things, as the actor himself remains tight-lipped about it. But looks like there’s a deeper meaning behind why he is keeping mum.

Stranger Things has a history of bringing characters back from the brink. Remember Eleven in Season 1, who herself defied death? But Eddie’s death was pretty final on screen. Still, because of his popularity, his return – perhaps in flashbacks or a haunting vision – is not entirely out of the question.

In a video shared by Joseph Quinn Source UK on X, the 30-year-old was at the Facts Comic-Con when he was asked if he knew whether Eddie would be coming back in Season 5. To this, the Fantastic 4 star replied, “I do know, but I’m not telling you!” This coy response has fans all excited, especially since flashbacks could be a way for Eddie to come back.

The recently released novel Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus tells more about Eddie’s backstory, further cementing his place in the hearts of fans. Authored by Caitlin Schneiderhan, it delves into the backstory of Eddie before his appearance in Season 4.

Readers got to see how he went from being a lonely outsider to becoming the strong leader of the Hellfire Club. This renewed interest could make the Duffer Brothers, the show’s creators, to find a way to keep Eddie’s spirit alive in Season 5. So, will Eddie return? Only time will tell.

The Future of Stanger Things Franchise

Stranger Things Season 5 has already started filming! Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer told Tudum that they wrote a 25-page document outlining the Upside Down’s secrets, even though they preferred to keep it shrouded in mystery.

In Season 4 of Stranger Things, viewers got to know more about the Upside Down, but there’s still a lot more to uncover in Season 5. According to Ross Duffer, during Geeked Week in June 2022 (via Tudum):

“The last remaining questions that are answered in that document, we’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5. And that’s really going to affect what Season 5 is about.”

While Stranger Things is ending, the franchise is far from over. The creators have hinted at expanding the universe beyond Hawkins. In an interview with SFX Magazine (via Games Radar), they have talked about exploring new stories within the same fictional world, and they even have at least one spinoff idea already in mind.
