When it comes to dropping those exclusive titles, PlayStation and Sony really do not mess around with what they present to us. If you don’t already own a PlayStation 5 then tonight’s many titles from their State Of Play feature should seal the deal.

There were some absolute jaw-dropping trailers, but the best was saved till last. It was a phenomenal way to close the feature with the highly anticipated sequel to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Giving us the biggest tease with so much to unpack from this trailer we can only imagine what awaits us when we return to this wonderful world of mystery and fantasy.

With This Re-Imagining of a Timeless Classic Will We See the Same Story Unfolding or Something Completely New?

A Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was shown at PlayStation's State of Play.
A Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was shown at PlayStation’s State of Play.

Right from the word go we are shown Zack Fair, for those who don’t know the timeline of Final Fantasy 7, (spoiler Alert) Zack did not have the happiest of endings. However in the newest remake a timeline was altered to allow him to possibly join forces in the world of Cloud Strife and his gang of Avalanche rebellions.

To what degree he will feature in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is yet to be discovered, but from the newest trailer he is featured quite a lot.

If part one of this fantastic remake series was the tease for things to come, then this second outing should really excite fans. We got to see Cloud infiltrate the Junon marching band for Rufus’s welcoming ceremony, hopefully we will get to show our sword spinning drills and not get called out as an intruder.

One feature of this trailer was showing the beginning of the end for the big bad of the series, Sephiroth, his demise, and realization of what he has become.

This story is timelessly known as one of the best in gaming for an origin story of a villain and a very justifiable reasoning for Sephiroth to follow the path he does in the pursuit of the destruction of all around him.

Getting to also witness the story leading up to how Sephiroth came to be part of soldier and also how Cloud fought alongside him shows how the animosity between them started and why Sephiroth is the catalyst for everyone around Cloud.

Given that part one of the game focused heavily on the origins of avalanche and the team you work around inside and around Midgar, then part two is where we will get to explore the world and discover new areas / creatures and comrades.

One such comrade is shown in this trailer and is also confirmed as a playable character is the remote controlled Cait Sith, which then leads us onto the newest area shown, The Gold Saucer.

The Gold Saucer is an extremely famous spot in Final Fantasy 7’s lore, it featured heavily in the original and has some pretty special scenes in it.

The romantic ferris wheel ride with the firework display, the arcade area which is shown in the trailer, and all of the playable mini-games like boxing and motorbike racing. Unfortunately the snowboarding mini-game was not featured.

This place is extremely nostalgic for many and it looks like Square Enix have spared no detail in bringing it to life.

With Sephiroth finding out his origins, will his timeline also be changed?

A fan favourite optional character included in the trailer is none other than the famous shapeshifting loner who loves nothing more than a good sleep in his signature coffin,

Vincent Valentine. Vincent being a playable character is yet to be confirmed, but his voice in the trailer sounded like VA royalty Mr Matthew Mercer (TBC) who would fit this role perfectly.

Making a show stopping return in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the owner of the Honeybee Inn Andrea Rhodea, so the rumour mill is very much in effect to feature Cloud possibly strapping up his dancing shoes for round two. With Midgar destroyed Andrea more than likely has set up shop in The Gold Saucer.

Cloud really is the dancing queen in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

The newest of the summons were also featured in battle segments, so we will have a lot more Materia to be hunting down throughout the game.

Finally, the ultimate weapons were shown in a small segment to exist in this world and given some information as to their purpose, so more will be revealed when the game is released.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be released worldwide on February 29th, 2024 exclusively on the PlayStation 5.

What are your thoughts on this absolutely stacked trailer? Does it look as good as the original or is it another tired remake? As always let us know in the comments.
