In the series, a large focus has been placed on the Mandalorians and their use of Beskar to counter the lightsabers. However, in the upcoming film, another anti-lightsaber weapon could be introduced similar to the Darksaber, which was a major plot point in the three seasons of the series. Here is it makes sense to include this weapon in The Mandalorian & Grogu.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Film Can Introduce a New Material That Cancels Lightsabers

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian debuted in 2019 and became the first live-action series set in the Star Wars universe. The series became extremely popular during its three seasons, leading to an upcoming theatrical film titled The Mandalorian & Grogu.

The film provides the perfect opportunity for Favreau to expand the lore of the universe, by introducing a new material that can be used to counter lightsabers. Previously, Beskar is extensively used by the Mandalorians for the same reason. However, in the non-canon lore, Cortosis is another metal with similar properties.

Cortosis was first introduced in the Star Wars Legends timeline in the novel I, Jedi by Michael A. Stackpole, which was published in 1998. It was later featured in the video game Star Wars: Jedi Knight II – Jedi Outcast, where it was used to make stormtrooper armor.

The material has been canonized with its appearances in novels such as A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller and Star Wars: Thrawn – Alliances by Timothy Zahn. Given the destruction of the Darksaber in The Mandalorian, the film might introduce a new anti-lightsaber weapon for Din Djarin, or even Grogu to use during battle.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Could Feature This Legendary Anti-Lightsaber Weapon Made From Cortosis

Although Cortosis is in itself a powerful alloy, possessing the ability to negate lightsabers, its strongest form is the Null Blade. The sword-like weapon is forged from Cortosis, which can short lightsabers upon contact. However, if it is not reinforced with the metal alloy, it can also be sliced by a lightsaber.

The Null Blade was first introduced in canon in the Doctor Aphra (2020) issue # 24. The weapon is similar to the Darksaber and is considered one of the most effective tools against lightsabers, as it was originally created to defeat the Sith. It was also used in a duel against Darth Vader, successfully shorting his lightsaber.

Given the history of the weapon, its legendary status cannot be argued. Therefore, it is only natural that the weapon finally appears in live-action much like the Darksaber, which earlier featured in the animated spin-offs.

Moreover, The Mandalorian & Grogu could see the titular duo traveling the galaxy to find a weapon that Grogu could use to hone his force skills, making the Null Blade an ideal candidate. Therefore, the film should introduce the Null Blade and Cortosis to the larger Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian & Grogu is currently slated to release on May 22, 2026.

The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+.
