Fortnite Battle Royale’s latest season, Wrecked, has included some fresh mechanics in the game that players have never experienced before. This includes the clever use of nitrous in cars (and on foot) as well as new weapons and items.
However, a leak suggests that the game will soon implement a movement mechanic that will pleasantly surprise players who’ve been wanting more realistic gameplay. This is similar to the changes players experienced at the beginning of Chapters 2 and 3.

At the time of writing, Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 5 Season 3 has made the best use of movement mechanics. Players have access to customizable cars/trucks, dirt bikes, and even a set of Nitro Fists that let players hop into the air and use these gloves as both weapons and movement tools.
While the game may have all the fun mechanics in the world, its non-serious tone puts off many players simply due to the lack of realistic movement. Even though the previous season saw a major change in walk/run/crouch animations, there’s still one missing mechanic that would make the game more realistic.
According to popular Fortnite leaker Hypex, players will be able to prone in the game sometime during Chapter 6. While there’s a lot of time until this happens, it’s highly likely that Epic will keep working on better movement mechanics, and being able to be prone will take an important place in this narrative.
How Will Proning Improve the Fortnite Experience?

Presently, there are a multitude of ways you can eliminate opponents in the game. When looking at just weapons, there are subclasses like sniper rifles, assault rifles, SMGs, and other items that keep evolving/changing throughout the seasons.
Some players excel at long-range combat and prefer to scout areas first before directly jumping into the action. A major problem for these players is to stay hidden and sneak up on enemies. Something that camping in bushes or hiding behind structures can help with.
However, going prone will help players stay hidden and even improve their accuracy when using a sniper rifle. This is quite similar to how games like Call of Duty and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege do things. Fortunately, Epic will still maintain the non-serious tone of things and let players goof around while they’re also having a tactical advantage.
The leak also suggests that players may be heading to an open-world experience in Fortnite, which would massively shift how players experience the game. A larger area to explore would bring about new ways of engaging in combat, and proning could certainly take part in all this.
