Martin Scorsese recently attended the 96th Academy Awards as his film Killers of the Flower Moon was nominated in 10 categories at the event. The director came with his daughter Francesca Scorsese and the cast of his film to represent the film at the prestigious award ceremony. Lily Gladstone was their best shot at nabbing an award for the night for Best Actress.
Unfortunately, the film did not win even one Oscar, and returned home empty-handed. However, Scorsese and his daughter seemed to have had a great time at the ceremony, especially during the live musical performances. The 2024 Oscars was an entertaining affair with many A-List celebrities, actors, and filmmakers gracing the prestigious event. In addition to handing out awards for excellence in various film categories, the event also saw some electrifying musical performances from Billie Eilish and Ryan Gosling.
In a video that’s going viral on X, Martin Scorsese is seen having a gala time during Gosling’s performance of I’m Just Ken at the Oscars. The video was captured by his daughter Francesca Scorsese and his father is seen laughing and enjoying the electrifying performance. The director also smiled back at the camera as her daughter continued capturing the sweet moment.
At the end, Scorsese is seen nodding his head, giving his sign of approval to Gosling’s performance, and joining the crowd in giving a round of applause for his entertaining act. The performance was certainly one of the highlights of the evening and Scorsese seems to have incredibly enjoyed Gosling’s musical act, unlike Eminem’s performance at the 2020 Oscars.
Martin Scorsese Calls Leonardo DiCaprio One of the Greats of Cinema
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have collaborated 6 times over the years and the director has managed to bring out a new side of the actor that audiences have never seen before each time. At the recent National Board of Review Gala in New York City, Scorsese had nothing but great words for DiCaprio and praised him for his incredible work ethic and his commitment to his art.
Scorsese detailed how DiCaprio has matured as an actor over the years and points out some of DiCaprio’s career-defining performances that he is in awe of. He called DiCaprio one of the greatest actors in the history of cinema and thanked him for their successful collaborations. He said, (via IndieWire)
“In 23 years, we made six pictures together now… I have faith in him. I know I can depend on him. His immersion in the process of the person who’s trying to play within the story is full. His fearlessness is something that has given me life when I make a film. You know, he’s a genius in terms of cinema really is, and you could see it in the face.
You could see it in all his films that he’s made going from This Boy’s Life’ to the Gilbert Grape picture, which was wonderful, all the way through the extraordinary The Revenant. I really know he’s one of the truly one of the greatest actors in the history of movies. I thank him for everything.”
After Killers of the Flower Moon, Scorsese is set to start his next film, a contemporary feature about Jesus. He will reteam with DiCaprio for an adaptation of another David Grann book The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder.
