Genshin Impact’s latest patch, 4.1 released only a few days ago, and with it came an array of new characters including Neuvillette and Wriothesly who are now playable. Although the former was introduced in the previous patch, it is only now that he has become playable. There had been a debate that followed the fans for quite some time now, one that followed the real identity of the Hydro Archon.
It has been a matter of concern as a similar theory came into being with the introduction of Inazuma. Back then people were speculating that Yae Miko was the real Electro Archon when the Raiden Shogun was merely a puppet. Although they weren’t wrong about the second part, the first was debunked much to their dismay. Similarly, the latest Archon Quest has explained the status of the Archon ruling over the nation of Fontaine.
Is Furina Really the Hydro Archon of Genshin Impact’s Teyvat?
Genshin Impact’s 4.1 patch introduced two new Archon Quests, To the Stars Shining in the Depths and Cataclysm’s Awakening, both these quests gave an insight into what really was going on with the nation of Fontaine without giving away too much. However, with Arlecchino, the Fatui Harbinger also known as The Knave, bringing about her doubt about Furina’s stance as the Hydro Archon, she was able to answer many people’s questions about the same.
Furina calls herself Focalors, the Hydro Archon. However, Arlecchino thought of her to be too weak. On the other hand, stood the Iudex of Fontaine, Monsoire Neuvillette. The Chief Justice of Fontaine might as well be running the nation with how much Furina relies on him to even attend diplomatic meetings. This was something the Fatus did not let slip. So much so that she began investigating whether or not he was the Archon in hiding.
Neuvillette’s Stance with the Hydro Archon
By the end of the second Archon Quest, Cataclysm’s Awakening, Paimon and the Traveler manage to deduce the truth behind Neuvillette’s existence. Arlecchino too comes to the conclusion that although Furina may seem like a coward, Neuvillette was most definitely not the Archon. This brought into question where the gnosis was, a question that is still unanswered.
As per art shared by Genshin Impact’s official page, Furina is most definitely the Hydro Archon. However, her power is no match against that of other Archons like Zhongli, Raiden Shogun, Venti, and Nahida. Even compared to Neuvillette, who is revealed to be the Hydro Sovereign, she has barely any power. So yes Furina is the Hydro Archon, but she is not as strong and it can very well be speculated that Neuvillette will be the one in charge of Fontaine and not the Archon.
