The Game of Thrones creators are back with their newest Netflix series, 3 Body Problem. While the name literally is a physics concept, the narrative of the show is even more complex (if that was even possible). Based on the Chinese novel of the same name by author Liu Cixin, the show has been wreaking havoc on the internet for its complicated yet intriguing narrative.
Involving extraterrestrial species, aka the Aliens, like an aftertaste, the series does make one wonder what if this is the future our technology-obsessed world is heading towards. The show’s creators have a similar stance on the issue.
3 Body Problem Creators Believe Aliens Exist
Science nerds and movieholics seem to have an unhealthy obsession with the concept of aliens. For years, their obsession has been rooted in and fed by the plethora of fictional works, particularly in visual media, exploring the concept of other life forms existing beyond our solar system and galaxy.
Liu Cixin’s first novel of the Remembrance of Earth’s Path trilogy and its live-action adaptation 3 Body Problem is no different. Although the concept is hard to understand (and even to explain!), the series has garnered immense fame.
While on a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, the series creators David Benioff, Dan B. Weiss and Alexander Woo revealed if they themselves believed in the basic idea of the show and the existence of some or more extraterrestrial species.
“I think they are definitely out there somewhere but like it’s just a question of how are they going to get here. Not in the show… but I’m not sure in reality that works. I’m not a science professional so I can’t really speak to that but I think it’s a very solid science fiction… they are out there I think almost certainly out there… and there are trillions of planets in the universe.”
D. B. Weiss stated, while also adding that he is skeptical about how the aliens will ever get here. Well, whether or not the 3 Body Problem creators’ belief in aliens is true, there is no denying that their Netflix series has certainly sparked the audience’s imagination and added a new dimension to the age-old alien debate.
What is the Future of 3 Body Problem
While 3 Body Problem has sparked a controversy in China (see CNN), the series has been largely well-received everywhere else. Yet despite some largely positive reviews on the internet, the critical reviews seem all over the place. Yet fans are eager to see what the next season of the series will be (see X), which still hasn’t been confirmed as per The Hollywood Reporter.
During the creator’s conversation with THR, Benioff remarked how the next season, if any, would be much better than the first one, stating how they already have an idea of what it’s going to be. While on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, they did make the same claims, Woo added they are not going to be counting their chickens before they hatch.
While our fascination with the extraterrestrial kind will seemingly forever continue to inspire countless works of art, literature, and movies, 3 Body Problems is as close as one can get to solving the problem of aliens and how they are going to get here.
3 Body Problem is streaming on Netflix now.
