However, it seems like the wait for the reveal of the new console is not going to end anytime soon. A reputed leaker has stated that the company will not announce the PS5 Pro at the event but will wait and announce it in late Q3 2024, similar to the announcement of the PS4 Pro.

There have been several leaks and rumors about PS5 Pro in 2023 and players are excited to know more about the console but there has been no official news from Sony. Fans were expecting that the company would announce the mid-gen upgrade at Consumer Electronics Show 2024 but an insider has quashed the claims and said that there is still time before any details on the console and its release are revealed.

Tom Henderson, a reputed and reliable industry insider has spoken about the excitement regarding the upgraded console and said that he believes it will only be released sometime in late Q3 2024. Henderson took to X/Twitter and stated:

It seems like everyone is hyped that the PS5 Pro might be announced at CES. Personally, I’d be surprised if they were to announce a new console 9-10 months from release if that’s the timeline they are still going with. So I’m more inclined to believe a late Q3 announcement.

Henderson also added the company would not want to hinder the ongoing sales of PlayStation 5 by announcing the Pro. This seems to be pretty accurate as sales of the PS5 console have skyrocketed in recent times. The sales of the console recently crossed the 50 million mark during the holiday season with around 25 million sales in the current fiscal year ending March 2024.

A report also stated that over 40,000 units of PlayStation 5 were sold every hour this year. Moreover, the console outsold its competitor, Xbox Series by a 3-to-1 margin. This only shows that PS5 sales are good and the company has also revealed a slim version of the console and it would not want to affect the sales which might happen if PlayStation 5 Pro is announced.

Furthermore, the prediction that the mid-gen upgrade might be announced during late Q3, sometime around September is also reasonable since the PS4 Pro was also announced. PS4 Pro was announced in September 2016 and then was released two months later in November 2016. This could be the case with PlayStation 5 Pro as well but it is just pure speculation as of now.

The leaker, Henderson has a pretty good track record as he accurately predicted the announcement of PS5 Slim and PS Portal. Those two were also not announced 9-10 months in advance and since the company is holding the press conference at Consumer Electronics Show 2024 on January 8 therefore it is highly unlikely that it will announce the console upgrade.

The upgraded console is expected to be announced in September 2024 and released in November.

The company has introduced some products at the Consumer Electronics Show in the past including the PlayStation VR2 and PlayStation Access Controller so there are chances that something might be announced. However, it is advised that fans take everything with a pinch of salt until any information comes directly from Sony.

PS5 Pro is said to be a solid improvement over PS5 and is rumored to be the most powerful current-gen console. There have been some leaks that have revealed the details of the console including the specifications including the CPU and GPU. It is also speculated that the upgraded console will offer improved ray tracing with AI, better 8K support, and more.
