One Piece is often hailed by fans as one of the greatest anime manga franchises ever, and the sales and records back up the claim. The series has been ongoing for over two decades and still has a myriad of mysteries that have yet to be unveiled. Many fans are guessing about the possibility of Gear 6 and when it will appear.
However, according to fan speculation, Luffy probably won’t be attaining a Gear 6; instead, he will most likely see changes in his growth. Luffy’s grandfather, Garp, is 9’5, while his father, Dragon, is 8’5, and Luffy is only 5’8, so it only makes sense for him to grow taller as he is only 19 years old.
Luffy’s new power-up in One Piece might not be Gear 6 but instead his height
Eiichiro Oda has solidified his status as the most immaculate manga writer ever with the creation of One Piece, which has held its spot as the best franchise in the world for more than two decades.
Despite the series being two decades old, it still manages to captivate the audience and keep them engaged in the story, and even now, there are uncountable mysteries yet to be revealed to the audience.
Luffy recently formulated the iconic Gear 5, deemed by many fans as the greatest transformation in anime-manga history. With the approaching challenges getting tougher, many fans assume that Gear 6 will happen eventually.
Unfortunately, the likelihood of anything beyond Gear 5 is exceedingly unlikely; however, there is one change Luffy could go through before the cessation of Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus.
Looking at Luffy’s genetics, his father and grandfather are very tall. Despite Garp and Dragon being 9’5 and 8’5, Luffy is extremely small in comparison and measures 5’9.
Therefore, it makes sense that Luffy would see a growth spurt due to his genetics. All other characters are relatively taller than average people.
Almost every One Piece character is taller and stands at an unrealistic height. Luffy’s only being 19 also adds to this prediction, as he still has many years left before he won’t be able to grow in terms of height.
Will Luffy acquire Gear 6 in One Piece?
Gear 5 was the latest transformation Luffy acquired during his squabble with Kaido. Fans and viewers are inquisitive about the prospect of seeing beyond Gear 5.
Unfortunately, Gear 5 seems to be the last transformation of Luffy we get to see. Taking a glance at the year gap between each transformation, the next gear would take 4-5 years. As briefed by Oda sensei, the series is up for a wrap in 3–4 years, so Gear 6 is highly unlikely.
Luffy also doesn’t need anything beyond Gear 5, as now he can manipulate and do everything he wants if he can imagine it. Also, there might be numerous hidden aspects in Gear 5, which Luffy is not aware of as of yet.
Gear 6 would need to be something that makes sense to the story, and with how broken Luffy is with Gear 5, it is highly unlikely Oda sensei would opt for a new transformation.
