The summary comes courtesy of a Production Weekly report, and it seems that fans are not pleased with what was revealed, if it can even be called a reveal at all. Fans have taken to Twitter to mock how generic the summary of the production has been, being downright comparable to a practical joke, or even a parody.

Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine might have the distinction of introducing the mutants into the MCU proper, but it does not come as a surprise that a full-fledged X-Men film will be in the cards before the release of Avengers: Secret Wars. A synopsis of the film was revealed, and it has fans howling with laughter at how generic it is. It reads:

This has led to a lot of fans airing out their jokes and complaints on the internet, which range from absolutely hilarious, to utterly disappointed.

However, given that the film is still in the very early stages of development, this may be just a placeholder synopsis before the film has something a little more concrete to present to fans. Further, any plot details that could be revealed might detract fans from X-Men ’97, and could necessarily dilute the IP. It is also probably the reason that updates on Deadpool & Wolverine have been on the down low, picking up in full swing once the show concludes in May.

Mister Sinister is rumored to be the main antagonist of the first phase of mutants in the MCU

Currently, X-Men ’97 is kicking into its endgame, focusing on the aftermath of the attack on Genosha, which was revealed to be orchestrated by Mister Sisniter. The character is famously one of the non-mutant enemies that the X-Men have and is rumored to be the first major villain that the X-Men will be facing in the MCU. Mister Sinister has previously appeared in other properties, most recently in the Deadpool video game, as an independent villain the Merc with the Mouth fights.

However, given that the character is already making an appearance in such a major capacity in X-Men ’97, there is a possibility that the film would pivot to another villain for the MCU. It remains to be seen how the MCU will approach the X-Men, and how they will be different for the Fox verse. So far, all the versions of the X-Men that we have seen on screen have been a fusion of X-Men: The Animated Series and the Fox X-Men movies, which could be the way forward villain-wise as well.
