Surprisingly, where a faction of individuals once trolled Zack Snyder for his initial vision of the Justice League. However, the tides now seemed to have shifted, and now these very same critics find themselves applauding George Miller for embracing a concept similar to Snyder’s original vision.

Zack Snyder’s Original Idea for Justice League

The chaotic saga surrounding DC’s Justice League is bound to etch itself into history. Zack Snyder’s involvement with WB’s cinematic universe, his departure, and subsequent return to deliver a Snyder Cut for his fans on demand have all contributed to the film’s behind-the-scenes drama.

Initially, Snyder had ambitious plans for the movie that WB rejected, plans that didn’t resonate with fans either. One such idea was to depict Zeus and the other Gods as Kryptonians, with Ares being responsible for the scouting ship crash seen in Man of Steel. Speaking about this idea and concept, he gave a brief peek into his mind in an interview with Hellenic Film Society USA, where he said,

I believe modern superheroes do a similar purpose in that they can inform us about the modern world we live in, with its modern challenges. Even without let’s say, it’s more emotional because now we find ourselves in these emotional landscapes that we can’t navigate.

He further added,

I think superheroes serve as a great tool to understand our psyche and our understanding of how we live in the world. They for sure share and owe a debt of gratitude to their mythic forefathers that have basically set them on a pedestal, frankly, that we can take down now and play with, and use in our own lives.

To break it down simply, Snyder wanted to break into the mold of these super creatures and make them more human. However, the studio, feared it would alter the established mythology of the Greek Gods and Superman’s origin, potentially affecting future narratives.

Consequently, the concept was abandoned within the canon universe, never to resurface. Years later, during a promotional interview for Furiosa, George Miller hinted at a similar concept, sparking intrigue among fans. Now, supporters of Snyder are pointing out the apparent double standard, calling out the hypocrisy in the contrasting receptions of Snyder’s and Miller’s ideas.

George Miller’s Similar Idea for Justice League Is Now Getting Praise, But Fans Are Unhappy

In 2007, Warner Bros. started on the development of a live-action Justice League film, with George Miller tapped to direct. However, the project met its demise due to production delays and budgetary issues.

Years later, enthusiasts are now getting a glimpse into what could have been. In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, the director revealed previously unknown details about the abandoned project.

I’ve always been interested in the power of myth, as Joseph Campbell did, stories and how at any level, whether they are anecdotes between two people, your family stories, about your local football team, your community, whether they all…of these are basically are timeless, they are in all cultures, we’re hardwired for them, and of course the great attraction for Justice League is that their roots go way back to the Greeks. They’re modern myths and have new meaning in the zeitgeist.
