God of War is one of the most iconic video game series tied to the Sony PlayStation console lineup. When the game’s reboot was announced, fans saw a more grounded, mature version of Kratos, who was learning to be a father to Atreus. Christopher Judge voiced Kratos from the 2018 title, and Terrence C. Carson voiced the Kratos in the original games.
Recently, Judge stated that he would not voice young Kratos out of reverence and respect for TC Carson, the original voice actor. He even mentioned that he had to turn down a recent project because it required him to voice-match TC Carson. Fans initially thought this referred to the Valhalla DLC for God of War Ragnarok, featuring Young Kratos. The actor then clarified that the project he turned down was unrelated to Santa Monica Studio, the series makers.

To establish some background, the actor stated in a video that he didn’t even attempt to voice-match TC Carson and didn’t watch footage from the older titles. He also stated that he found Carson tremendous and thought it would be a “disservice” to try to voice-match him.
He also mentioned that the decision to get him onboard had everything to do with the actor making the character his own. Moreover, he mentioned that he would decline even if the team would ask him to do so. He then revealed that he had to decline a project as the makers tried to get him to voice-match TC Carson. Soon after Judge mentioned this, fans began speculating that he had turned down voicing the Young Kratos in Valhalla.
While not concrete, it did make sense as it would push uniformity in the franchise by bringing all titles at the same graphical fidelity level voiced by the same actor. However, shortly after this, the actor took to his Twitter account and clarified by saying this:
Just to clarify, NO ONE at @SonySantaMonica asked me to voice match TC. The respect for what he did as Kratos goes from top to bottom. It was another game that asked me to do a voice match (not War for Wakanda)
It is clarified that the actor was referring to an entirely different project unrelated to the God of War franchise. Notice that in the parentheses in the last sentence, the actor mentions War for Wakanda, referring to the expansion for Marvel’s Avengers title by Crystal Dynamics. Christopher voiced Black Panther in the expansion, and the actor claims that he wasn’t referring to that as a project.
It is also worth noting that there were recent rumors of Sony Interactive Entertainment planning to remaster God of War, and Judge may be approached to reprise his role as Kratos. However, it may be implausible, considering that the studio didn’t approach Judge for voicing the Spartan warrior’s younger self. So, approaching him to redo the work done by Carson initially might not be seen in the best light. Not to mention that there are very high chances that the Judge might not accept it.
Since the statement made by the actor didn’t mention any names of projects or studios, it was a little challenging to identify what he was talking about when he made it, hence the confusion. Now that the misconception is cleared, fans are reacting with wholesome and respectful comments on the tweet made by the actor.
Some mentioned that it is precisely what they thought was the case, and others are replying with wholesome Kratos GIFs. Some are showing their respect by referring to the actor as a legend. Plans for the series are primarily unclear now that Ragnarok has concluded the Norse timeline. Now that Kratos has conquered his final peak in Valhalla and Atreus is onto a new adventure, it is anyone’s guess what the future holds for the fan-favorite series.
