The impact of Young Kratos from the God of War series sort of faded following the 2018 installment of the game. However, he didn’t just became famous in the GoW universe, but Mortal Kombat is responsible for making him popular as well. As feared as he is, and as much as the gods may want to kill him, they also respect him, as was seen during his first appearance in the franchise’ soft reboot.
The character has been praised by critics who have loved his attitude and the storyline of the God of War games. Kratos’ ascension to Mount Olympus in the initial title is usually seen as the most prominent moment throughout his story. As the narrative shifted from Greek mythology to Norse mythology, he developed a touch of tenderness, no matter how much he tries to hide it.
And now, it appears Kratos might be making a comeback to the Mortal Kombat franchise, if Ed Boon is hinting at a return.
If This is True Mortal Kombat 1 Will Be Getting a Lot More Attention
Players loved the appearance of Kratos in Mortal Kombat (2011) and they might be seeing the character again if that’s what NetherRealm Studios’ creative director Ed Boon is hinting at. His recent post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) showcases an image of him engaged in discussions and the caption reads “Talkin’ Kratos“.
Fans appear to have been experiencing a variety of emotions after seeing this post. One X user called, @MKFANFOREVER7, wrote “Don’t play with my emotions (crying emoji). I really wish we got him in the game but I will not raise my ambition too much.”
Another user dubbed, bacho, called him the “peak MK guest.” This shows how beloved Kratos is to the Mortal Kombat community.
However, it wasn’t without other suggestions. Some users were seen asking to bring back Kronika, the former Keeper of Time whom Liu Kang defeated to become Fire God. Others were furious enough to point out fixing glitches associated with another character, Mileena, in the game.
The Mortal Kombat Franchise Loves a Good Crossover
Apart from Kratos, other interesting characters that have been featured in Mortal Kombat include: Peacemaker, The Joker, Rambo, and more.
While talking in an interview last year with First we Feast, Ed Boon explained the process of selecting a guest character for the game. “It’s not technical, it’s just childish,” he said.
It simply leverages the inner cravings of people who love seeing more of their favorite movies and playing video games. Who doesn’t want their favorite characters fighting a gruesome battle to test their might?
It is not a certainty as to whether Kratos will appear in Mortal Kombat 1, however, given his past appearance and fitting storyline, hope remains. Also some major characters including Nightwolf, Jade, Kotal Kahn, and more are still missing from the title. Perhaps some of these iconic fighters will also be making a return.
