Helldivers 2 is in the middle of a controversy with the recent Steam and PlayStation Network account linking notice and is facing backlash from players. However, the God of War creator has said that he doesn’t understand why the players are making such a big issue over this requirement.
Arrowhead announced that players on Steam will need to link their accounts to a PSN account to continue playing the game but players have said that Sony is only in select regions of the world and players outside can not create a PSN account, meaning that they will miss out on the game.
God of War Creator Reacts To Helldivers 2 Controversy
While Arrowhead Game Studios and the game community are divided over the account linking issue and looking for a solution to get out of this issue, God of War creator David Jaffe has had his say on the controversy and said that he does not understand why players are so “mad.”
Jaffe took to X/Twitter and said that he doesn’t think players are wrong to be annoyed with this account linking requirement, but he cannot understand the reason behind it. Here’s what Jaffe said:
I’m not saying they are wrong to be mad; I honestly don’t understand. Why are PC Helldiver players upset they need to sign up on PSN? Clearly it bugs them, but why?
He further added:
Hell, they had to sign up on STEAM to play the thing, so it’s not as if they are anti-giving out their info is it?
While it is understandable that making a PSN account and linking may not be an issue for many, those residing outside regions where Sony doesn’t allow users to make a PSN account.

It has also been reported by many players who reside in such regions that they tried making an account using a VPN and linking it but instead got their accounts terminated, losing their access to the game.
Players Explain Why the Community Is Enraged
Players have tried explaining to Jaffe exactly what the reason behind the backlash is. One player said that “it wasn’t a requirement at launch” and if it was, players wouldn’t have an issue. Another player said that this “serves ZERO legitimate reason to exist. It offers no technical benefit [and] no benefit to the consumer.”

User Nyv stated, “You shouldn’t always accept everything a billion companies want if it worked before without any problems and certainly not if you haven’t communicated it beforehand.”

Many players have said that Sony is only available in 69 countries, and now those outside the regions also need to make a PSN account to play the game, but if it was a requirement before, they would not have bought the game.
