God of War Ragnarok was a sequel to the hit 2018 reboot. The game was launched for the PS4 and the PS5 in 2022. During Sony’s 2024 State of Play Showcase, the game has also been confirmed to launch on PC.

The showcase began with the announcement and a reveal of Concord, an upcoming live-service first-person hero shooter; neither title stood out in the showcase lineup. The clear winner in the lineup was Ballad of Antara, which certainly seems promising.

One of the announcements made during the State of Play 2024 broadcast was that Ragnarok was coming to PC in September. The showcase was mostly underwhelming for fans as they there weren’t any announcements made by Sony, probably because the PS5 is in the later stage of its lifecycle.

However, among the many showcased entries, Ballad Of Antara seemed to be in a different league altogether. The title is an upcoming action RPG launching as a PS5 exclusive in 2025. In addition to the gameplay looking amazing and the fantasy world appearing prosperous, the game is also free to play, as stated on the PlayStation blog.

A brand new IP, the title, takes a dual-world approach previously seen in titles like the divisive Lords of the Fallen in 2024. The game promises that both worlds will differ vastly, and every destination will have its iteration in the otherworld, known as its ‘Para.’

Everything from the friends and foes one will encounter in a destination will differ vastly in its ‘Para’; multiple playable characters or ‘Emissaries’ belong to one of the many classes. Naturally, playing with one will feel distinct from the other as they will have different gameplay. All of them will also have a unique story,

The Game Can Be Played Alone or With Friends

Ballad of Antara will also feature a child companion akin to Atreus in the Santa Monica hack and slash title.

While everything stated above sounded terrific, it was a little unusual. That is because free-to-play games usually offer some form of multiplayer. That is the case with the upcoming game, as it will allow players to undertake their journey with three other players.

So, the co-op is confirmed to be coming to the title. But what the game will do for revenue hasn’t been revealed. Indeed, a game of this scale will have some microtransactions to support the studio. But nothing has been confirmed about it so far.

Despite that, the game’s graphical fidelity is what stood out among all of the other offerings. While it wasn’t as cinematic or breathtaking as Hellblade 2, the former’s gameplay didn’t feel as soulless as the latter. So, it could be the perfect blend of fantastic visuals and impressive, binding gameplay as it makes its way to Sony’s console in 2025.

This could be PlayStation’s marquee release in 2025. Do you find it exciting? We would love to know your thoughts in the comments below.
