God of War has introduced a new generation of players to Greek mythology and became a crash course for devoted players. The original trilogy heavily focused on the Gods of Olympus and their myths and accolades but some fans have overlooked how one other god used to be a massive threat.
Being a god has its perks, but Ares pushed it a step too far by opening a hole through the fabric of space and time during his battle with Kratos. No other being has accomplished such feat and it is for the best that Kratos did what he had to.
The Original God of War Was a Much Bigger Threat Compared to Other Deities
Santa Monica Studio was inspired by the legends and myths of the Greek gods and created a franchise that would honor the source material and shape it into something magnificent.
The developers did everything to bring these iconic characters to life and the most recent game showcased the might of the God of Thunder against the retired God of War. The fight caught the gaming community off guard and seemed to forget that the older games featured grander battles that were large in scale.
Kratos was not the original God of War and assumed the title after he removed his brother, Ares, from office for his crimes against the Pantheon and the people. The other Greek gods were not a fan of his and were likely relieved after his demise knowing that he could have been a much bigger threat that not even Zeus could keep at bay.
I think people forget the fact that Ares literally opened up a pocket dimension in God of War 1

Ares was able to rip open holes in space-time during his battle with Kratos and the Greek gods are known to be much more powerful than other pantheons and deities like Odin of the Aesir. Perhaps the ability to transport anyone anywhere and even create a pocket dimension could answer how Kratos came upon other gaming franchises.
The Gods of Olympus failed to oversee the amount of power their fellow gods had accumulated which could inadvertently lead to their collective demise. Ares represented all the negative characteristics of war and for a being with great capacity and fueled with rage and hatred could lead to the end of the entire world.
Kratos Is a Much Better Candidate to Take the God of War Title From His Brother

Kratos ascended the ranks of the Spartan army from youth without knowing of his godly heritage while Ares abused his power because no one dared to stand against him. Kratos proved him wrong and ended him without hesitation and despite having atrocities on his account, he was a far better god.
Jealousy and thirst for power is a potent mix for catastrophe in the hands of Ares while Kratos values power and is somewhat responsible, especially by the end of the third game.
Ares gave gods a bad name and Kratos’ hatred for them increased. The retired god showed no remorse for killing them all.
The power to visit anywhere could be how Kratos will travel to other cultures and pantheons. Do you think Ares is a major threat in God of War? Let us know in the comments section below!
