The concept of monsters battling each other has been a central theme since the inception of the Godzilla franchise with the release of the very first Godzilla film in the 1950s. This idea of colossal creatures engaged in epic battles to the death continues to be popular, almost 70 years after its birth. The latest film bearing the Godzilla name is Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and it featured a very unique take on Godzilla – the kaiju was pink.

In case you didn’t know, Godzilla was eventually adopted into its own franchise in the West, known as the MonsterVerse. The arc started with 2014’s Godzilla and includes other films such as Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong. The saga continues with the ongoing series titled Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire movie.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire‘s Trailer Showed Godzilla In A Whole Different Way

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire promises an epic showdown as the two titular Titans join forces to confront a world-ending threat. The latest trailer showed off a major development in Godzilla’s atomic powers—an upgrade that sees his traditional blue glow transformed into a vivid neon pink. This change is a symbol of his significant power boost, suggesting that Godzilla is gearing up to face a formidable enemy in the upcoming film.

The pink-hued atomic powers more or less made it apart that it’s a departure from Godzilla’s tried and true abilities. This color change may signify a whole new level of strength and capabilities, enhancing the visual flairs that fans want to see. While the specifics of the upgrade are not fully revealed in the trailer, it is evident that Godzilla’s powers have undergone an incredible transformation.

Why Is Godzilla Pink In Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire?

As previously stated, the iconic kaiju is pink in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire – something that genuinely shocked yet intrigued fans in a big way. The trailer for the film hints at the evolution of Godzilla’s powers since Godzilla vs. Kong, which seemed like the most logical next step.

Not only does Godzilla showcase a healed appearance, having recovered from injuries sustained in the Mechagodzilla battle, but he also undergoes a transformative process within a crystalline cocoon. This cocoon seems to absorb a vibrant pink form of energy from the ground, hinting that Godzilla’s evolution is closely tied to the radioactive energy source within the Hollow Earth.

The MonsterVerse has established that Titans draw their power from the Hollow Earth, and Godzilla’s ability to absorb energy directly from the ground hints at a new form of evolution akin to an insect undergoing metamorphosis. The transformation is visually apparent in Godzilla’s change in physical features, including longer, sharper and greater in number dorsal spikes.

On top of that, Godzilla’s newfound agility, shown off by a sprinting ability, makes fans even more hyped for what’s to come. The movie is set to release on 12 April 2024 in the USA, so we’ll have to see how the film will turn out.
