Created, written, and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, the movie later made history when it was nominated and won an Oscar. The Greatest Film of All Time, as far as the Godzilla franchise is concerned, the Japanese flick Godzilla Minus One is an enticing tale of the kaiju wreaking havoc in postwar Japan. As much a human tale as it is a monster saga, the movie has earned widespread critical acclaim for its brilliant visuals, screenplay, music, narrative, and actions.

Made against a surprising budget of just $10-12 million (via AV Club) it went on to gross $116 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), making it one of the most successful entries in the Godzilla-verse. And so, fans have been desperate to see the movie or revisit the grandeur created by Takashi Yamazaki ever since it was released in December.

After months of keeping them in the dark, the film has surprisingly been released on Netflix worldwide. But releasing the film is not all that Toho has done, for apparently, as per its official X account, the movie might just be getting a sequel.

While the possibility of a sequel has been hinted at several times (see The Direct), the ambiguous post seems to suggest that a sequel might be in the works. At the end of the Academy Award-winning movie, it is shown that the remains of the kaiju are beginning to reform deep under the sea. This, along with the mysterious mark on Nariko, there is a possibility that a sequel has been quietly under the works these past months.

Will Takashi Yamazaki Return to Direct a Potential Godzilla Minus Two?

Godzilla Minus One was an absolute and total hit, making history by being hailed as the best Godzilla movie of all time. While the actors did an impeccable job, it was really the brilliance of Takashi Yamazaki as the writer, director, and visual effect supervisor that the movie went on to become such a success.

So, fans have been desperate to see a sequel with Yamazaki potentially returning to direct a film. After revealing once that he would love to make another movie (via Dexerto), he later revealed that there has been no talk of a sequel, hinting that there is a possibility somebody else will get to direct a potential sequel (via ComicBook.com)

And if the latter was a possibility, a scoop by X user @raserkey1 might just prove that Yamazaki will not return to direct another Kaiju flick. Described by the user as another standalone movie by Toho, apparently Shinsuke Soho, Kigndom director, is being considered for the next Godzilla movie.

A major disappointment if this were to come true, we hope Takashi Yamazaki gets to close his epic saga with yet another brilliant movie!

Godzilla Minus One is now streaming on Netflix.
