HBO has officially greenlit Lanterns, a DC series from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios. HBO has approved an eight-episode straight-to-series order with Chris Mundy, known for his work on True Detective and Ozark, joining as executive producer and showrunner.

Emmy-winning writer and producer, Damon Lindelof alongside Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow author Tom King, will serve as executive producers and co-writers for the series based on DC Comics, along with Mundy.

Initially labeled a Max Original, a new arrangement by HBO and Max content CEO Casey Bloys has placed major projects like Lanterns under HBO. The series will follow the animated DC series Creature Commandos, which is set to premiere in late 2024.

Although the cast remains uncertain, the Firefly star Nathan Fillion is set to portray a Green Lantern in James Gunn’s upcoming DC film Superman.
