The DC Studios head James Gunn announced a Green Lantern series under his new DC Universe. And HBO has officially picked up the series. Executive producers Damon Lindelof and Tom King, alongside showrunner Chris Mundy, will guide the series as it follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart of the Green Lantern Corps.
The series is expected to follow the Lanterns finding themselves embroiled in a dark, terrestrial mystery investigating a murder in America’s heartland. Previously portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the lackluster 2011 film, expectations are high for the series to redeem the Green Lantern legacy and deliver DC’s finest superhero storytelling yet.
HBO Greenlit DC’s Lanterns With Damon Lindelof And Tom King
HBO has officially greenlit Lanterns, a DC series from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios. HBO has approved an eight-episode straight-to-series order with Chris Mundy, known for his work on True Detective and Ozark, joining as executive producer and showrunner.
Emmy-winning writer and producer, Damon Lindelof alongside Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow author Tom King, will serve as executive producers and co-writers for the series based on DC Comics, along with Mundy.
Initially labeled a Max Original, a new arrangement by HBO and Max content CEO Casey Bloys has placed major projects like Lanterns under HBO. The series will follow the animated DC series Creature Commandos, which is set to premiere in late 2024.
Although the cast remains uncertain, the Firefly star Nathan Fillion is set to portray a Green Lantern in James Gunn’s upcoming DC film Superman. And fans have high expectations with the upcoming series, as they anticipate to follow along the journey of Hal Jordan and John Stewart in the new DC offering.

The previous adaptation starring Ryan Reynolds has been a huge disappointment. While it has left many terrified of what the upcoming series may have in store for them, excitement remains high for the adventures of Green Lanterns in this new series. Casting details and a specific release date are yet to be announced.
