Grand Theft Auto was originally introduced to the world as a two-dimensional video game and the franchise has evolved since then. In the early 2000s, Rockstar Games made an incredible leap to 3D games and developed GTA 3 which was the best-selling game of the year 2001.

The developers of Rockstar Games managed to beat themselves by releasing the sequel the following year and the video game was able to supersede the previous game. The title of the best-selling video game was taken by GTA: Vice City and it was the perfect sequel.

It is quite poetic for Rockstar Games to beat themselves at their own game, the success of GTA 3 inspired the developers to go bolder and came up with a sequel that was twice as good and it became the standard for what a good sequel should be. The game sold over 14 million and a half units until the sequel came along and was the best-selling video game of the year.

The first 3D game of the series ran so the sequels could fly and each installment always brought something different and fresh. The gaming community became attached and invested in the franchise and was always eager to see what the developers could come up with next. Rockstar Games always pushed the hardware to its limit and innovated where they could and nailed real-time hair growth systems and body fat systems in succeeding titles.

Players fell in love in the open-world sandbox where anything they do has no consequences. The insane amount of freedom provided by video games was not possible until this series was fully envisioned. Different vehicles were provided for various traversal options and some of them appeared in later sequels but the Faggio is the one vehicle fans hope will be omitted for GTA 6.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Could Beat the Sales Count of the Prequels

It is also worth mentioning that the highly anticipated sequel will be taking place in a fan-favorite location and fans will be blown away by how the developers applied modern technology and improved certain areas they all know and love. Some fans have taken advantage of artificial intelligence and made some impressive fake leaks about the game, however, it is causing the developers a massive headache for spewing false hype.

Perhaps this is history repeating itself, the last game was released a decade ago and it became the fastest-selling video game for the developers and of all time. Some fans are speculating that this sequel could supplant the successful video game and it will pay homage to how Vice City ended the run of GTA 3 years ago.

The pressure is high and Rockstar Games can already feel it from afar and knows they cannot drop the ball this time. For years game developers have pioneered this structure of gaming and became a staple for the game industry. GTA 3 was a massive success, especially at a time when these ideas were frowned upon but today, it could bring about the change that the game industry needs.
