GTA 6 is probably the most highly anticipated game of recent years, and the developers can already feel the pressure from the gaming community. It has been a decade and two years since the launch of the previous title, and Rockstar Games is nearly ready to share what they have been working on.
Perhaps the developers should take notes from other studios on the approach they take when developing a sequel. Activision entrusted this year’s Call of Duty to Raven Software and Treyarch Studios in the hopes of revitalizing the franchise, which seems to have worked.
GTA 6 Developers Should Take Notes From Competitors
![Rockstar Games should not be ashamed to reflect on previous games for GTA 6.](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/07145526/GTA-6-Rockstar-Games-1-1024x576.webp)
Rockstar Games has done some impressive things with earlier entries in the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption franchises that deserve to be praised and certain features and mechanics need to be reintroduced in GTA 6. It can be difficult to top the greatness the developers have achieved but change is constant and creativity comes along with it.
Game development can be time-consuming and complicated, which is often the reason why Activision and other developers reflect and reuse older concepts in newer projects with some minor differences to elevate the gaming experience. Yale Miller served as the senior director of production at Treyarch Studios and briefly spoke about the studio’s process of crafting a new game.
Post-Cold War, we started to think about everything we were going to do. Where that journey started was–what makes a great Black Ops game? That was kind of where we started. We’d been making Black Ops for a long time. I feel like there’s a natural drift. What are the things that are awesome? You try other things, do different things. Just because an idea is old doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea. Looking back at what it means to be a Black Ops game. What’s that Black Ops DNA? That was a big part of it early on.
There is no shame in reflecting on the fact that fans appreciate callbacks to older games. This method can give the franchise more nostalgia that hardcore fans will recognize.
Rockstar has done some impressive work in the past that can improve the latest project. Sometimes the past can hold the key to the future’s success.

Next year is a gonna be a great one for the gaming community with back-to-back major releases from well-known and established franchises. Every developer needs to bring the heat and deliver the best-looking games possible.
Perhaps taking a trip down memory lane is not the worst idea and could bear some good fruit. The rich history of Rockstar Games is enough to take inspiration from.
Old ideas don’t mean they are bad; they can be even better with proper execution. Activision can only do so much for a first-person shooter genre, while Rockstar Games is working on a massive open-world franchise.
Developers embrace their past and honor those who came before for a full-circle moment. Older GTA games will feel better if the developers choose to bring back older mechanics.
