After years of waiting, Rockstar finally put an end to several leaks and rumors and released the trailer for GTA 6, confirming several things that had been speculated about the game. Fans watched the trailer with a gleeful smile, until it was revealed that the game would be released sometime in 2025, with no specific launch date.

However, if that wasn’t enough, it seems GTA 6 will be skipping last-gen console, PlayStation 4, and will only be released for current-gen consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. According to a press release by Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, the developer has not announced a PS4 version of the game. The press release stated:

Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., is proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems in 2025.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise since GTA 6 looks quite graphically demanding, as per the trailer. Last-gen consoles likely would not be able to run the game smoothly, for the experience that Rockstar Games wants to provide to the series fans. Sam Houser, President of Rockstar Games, also highlighted this via the press release saying:

Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences. We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.

Along with the PlayStation 4, there is also no mention of an Xbox One version, so GTA 6 seemingly will be skipping the Xbox One console. Moreover, the game will also not be coming to PC on day one, unsurprisingly because that is how it usually is with GTA titles. Therefore, GTA 6 fans only have one way out of the FOMO, and that is getting a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. GTA 6 is coming after two console generations and since GTA 5 was originally released for PS3 and Xbox 360 a decade ago.

As per the trailer, the game features some stunning graphics ever seen in video games. The environmental lighting, character models, color scheme, vehicle and building design, hair physics, and skin texture, are quite realistic. Some frames in the trailer can easily pass as real pictures. That’s the level of graphics GTA 6 boasts, so it’s quite understanding that last-gen consoles would not be able to provide the grand adventures that Rockstar, as well as players, are hoping for.

The whole in-game world looks very lively with colors and lighting, whether it be the interiors of the nightclub or the skyscrapers. Not only the character models, but even the wildlife shown in the trailer such as alligators and flamingos look very impressive. The clothing, cars, and tattoos are also quite detailed and would provide a very realistic and immersive experience.

Rockstar Games also confirmed what had been rumored over the years. It stated that GTA 6 is going back:

“to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.”

The trailer also confirmed that there will be two protagonists, Lucia and Jason. However, Jason was left unnamed in the trailer.
