After 10 long years, the GTA 6 trailer has finally been released, and it has blown the minds of all the GTA fans that have been waiting for the next installment in the franchise. Within the GTA 6 trailer, there are all kinds of Easter eggs and key moments that the fan base has already begun to decipher, but one of the best parts of the trailer is the music that accompanies it.
Within the GTA 6 trailer, Rockstar has decided to bring gamers back to a classic time in its history as once again it utilizes the music of Tom Petty, and his song Love Is a Long Road. This isn’t the first time that Rockstar has used a song from Tom Petty, as it also used one of his songs in the original trailer for GTA: San Andreas, which brings fans back to a classical time in the franchise’s history.
Why Was Tom Petty’s Love Is a Long Road Used Within the GTA 6 Trailer?
As stated above, one of the main reasons that this song by Tom Petty was used is because it is a callback to GTA: San Andreas and brings gamers back to one of the best GTA games in the franchise.
But there are other reasons as to why this song has potentially been chosen by Rockstar to feature within this new GTA 6 trailer. For example, Rockstar could have used a song by Tom Perry as a callback to the fact that we are heading back to Vice City as the game’s main location, which definitely won’t go unnoticed by the game’s fan base.
Another reason this song could have been chosen by Rockstar is because the song perfectly connects with the potential story that has been leaked over the coming months. This is because the leaks have been leaning towards a Bonnie and Clyde storyline, and now that the trailer has been released, we can see that this does look like the storyline Rockstar is heading towards.
Listening to the lyrics of the song, hint towards this and the potential story that we could experience within the game, as there are some lyrics like:

Which hint towards a man and a woman in a relationship as the woman tries to help the man become something better.
So far, we do not know how similar the storyline will be to Bonnie and Clyde, but with the connection to the music, we can only assume that somehow the two main characters will attempt to save each other in their own way but ultimately fail in some way, which leads to the title of the song Love Is a Long Road.
What Other Connections Are There to the GTA 6 Trailer and Tom Petty?
As always, when a new trailer drops for a game, there is always a huge amount of the fan base that is already looking for any kind of secret or Easter egg that could be included within the trailer that they can notice, which will add an extra layer to the trailer.
At the moment, there is only one major Easter egg that players have found within the new GTA 6 trailer that leans towards Tom Petty and his connection with Rockstar. Even though this is a small Easter egg, it still has a major impact as it shows how much love and care that Rockstar has for its music within its games.
In the final moments of the trailer, the two main protagonists barge through a convenience store door in a rather exciting moment. However, some eagle-eyed fans have noticed that upon that door is a nod to Tom Petty, as there is a sticker on the window that says, “Petty Forever.“.
For those who may not know, Tom Petty passed away back in 2017, and this phrase is used to help support his music and to continue his legacy, as he was a major part of the franchise, and Rockstar is showing that it supports the continuation of Tom Petty’s legacy.
