Guillermo del Toro Lands Himself In Trouble After Praising Avatar 2
Guillermo del Toro was one of the few fortunate ones who got to see the highly anticipated Avatar: Way of Water. He was so impressed by the sequel to the 2009 film, that went to Twitter to praise not only the film but also its creator, James Cameron. He called the sequel a staggering achievement.
I say it again: Avatar 2 – seeing it you realize how long it has been since you saw a MOVIE-MOVIE (like that, in caps).

However, during an interview with Cinemablend, the host mentioned that when he was there to promote his film, Pinnochio, the director stated despite the immense praise for the film, he “got in a lot of trouble for tweeting [about Avatar 2.]”
Even though Guillermo del Toro went overboard in praising the sequel of the film. Fans find it reasonable, as it is the ultimate seal of approval because impressing a big name like Del Toro is not easy, and his singing praises about the film make it worth watching. His praises were true as the film became one of the highest-grossing films of the year, earning $2.3 billion at the worldwide box office.
James Cameron Did Not Have A Smart Approach For His Magnum Opus
When it comes to delivering sci-fi blockbusters, nobody can do it better than James Cameron, his 2009 film, Avatar was a masterpiece of the sci-fi genre, and the film has $2.9 billion at the worldwide box office. The film was visually stunning, as it featured an imaginary world of Pandora that would transcend the audience into a bewildering journey.
While the film was a massive blockbuster, James Cameron publicly criticized his magnum opus, stating that it was “not a smart approach.” During an exclusive interview with GQ, he stated what he did while creating Avatar was not the right and smart way to approach creating a film, and he included things in the film that he found to be cool.
“I wrote ‘Avatar’ which was a kitchen sink approach. It was not a smart approach. I just threw everything into it that I thought would be cool.”
In the same interview, the filmmaker mentioned that it took $250 million to produce the first film, and in order for the sequel to earn profit it would “have to be the third or fourth highest grossing film in history. That’s your threshold. That’s your break even.”
Although Cameron felt that he did not take a smart approach to Avatar, his idea was successful as it went on to become one of the most visually pleasing and stunning films, breaking the boundaries for visual effects and 3D technology.
