Fans of the original were ecstatic when Supergiant Games announced Hades 2, and rightfully so. The isometric roguelike quickly climbed the charts after release, becoming one of the best games to release in 2020.
With all the critical and community appeal of the game, along with several accolades, a sequel was only a matter of time. The Greek mythology setting is represented masterfully, and we have the narrator setting the stage for what becomes an intense fight for survival. But who is the narrator? Well, that question may have been answered by the sequel!
Hades 2 Technical Test Reveals Our Beloved Narrator
Greek history and mythology have had several prominent writers and speakers. Aesop, Herodotus, and Aristotle are just a few of the numerous that come to mind when one is talking about epics from Greek mythology. However, one stands out among the rest, and it is this iconic poet and author whom Supergiant made its narrator: Homer.
The reveal comes from an unlikely source: the Hades 2 technical test! The test has allowed some fans of the series early access to the sequel, and we have already started to hear about their experiences via social media. Reddit user Wyld_Fyr3_ shared a screenshot to r/HadesTheGame from their time with the test.
It shows a dialogue delivered by the new heroine Melinoë of Hades 2, addressing the narrator, Homer, directly. She chides the narrator for describing her every move, which is giving away her plan to catch a certain “her.” Homer is the Greek poet who wrote The Iliad and The Odyssey, two Greek epics that have been widely influential to the present day.

He would fit the role of a storyteller, and the reveal has led many people on the subreddit to express their happiness over this bit of trivia.
Hades 2 Fans Eagerly Await the Next Installment in the Series
The first game was highly appreciated for not just the gameplay but also the art and sound direction. While not everyone had access to the technical test, Hades 2 will be available as Early Access later this year. The period is slated for the second half of 2024, as the developers want to add a substantial amount of content to the game before allowing players to enjoy it.
The first game experienced similar treatment, and there was a lot of meat on the bone even during Early Access. It was one of the reasons Hades performed as well as it did and why Supergiant is highly regarded in the gaming community.
Not much is known about Hades 2 besides what we have seen in the short trailer. While the charming Zagreus is no longer around, we can expect Melinoë to encounter many of the same deities and personalities as he did on her quest. We expect the same fast-paced combat system as before and possibly new weapons, boons, and, of course, bosses to take down.
