The final ending of Hajime Isayama’s epic series Attack on Titan has fulfilled the fans with the 10-year journey that started in 2013. When the plot developed, it became clear that Eren Yeager’s story was much more than what first appeared, even though the original idea appeared to contain a fair number of shonen clichés. Unquestionably, Attack on Titan became a global phenomenon after selling over 100 million print copies and taking home multiple prestigious awards.

As such, there were undoubtedly a lot of discussions and debates surrounding its conclusion. The impression that Eren’s anime ending was modeled after Lelouch vi Britannia’s Code Geass ending was among the more intriguing criticisms raised by viewers of the show. Both Lelouch and Eren share a tremendous amount of similarities which has led fans to believe that Isayama may have taken inspiration from Code Geass to give Eren Jaeger his iconic ending in Attack on Titan.
Lelouch Vu Britannia from Code Geass
The main character in Code Geass is Lelouch vi Britannia. The Eleventh Prince of the Holy Britannian Empire, he was the son of Charles zi Britannia, the 98th Emperor of Britannia. In addition, he assumed the true identity of Zero and led The Black Knights. Lelouch suffered a great deal after his mother passed away and saw his father didn’t seem to care.

He always believed that his mother and sister were treated unfairly, and he made it his mission to work towards improving the world. Determined to destroy Britain, Lelouch swears retribution in his mother’s name.
At the end of Code Geass, Lelouch plans his demise as a part of his grand scheme to turn the entire world against him and usher in peace. This endeavor is quite similar to Eren’s plan and in a way portrays that Isayama might have taken inspiration from the character to plot the ending of Attack on Titan and Eren.
Eren Jaeger Shares Similarities With Lelouch
There are a lot of similarities between Eren and Lelouch vi Britannia. Lelouch and Eren have a lot in common when it comes to their motivations. When they are very young, both characters are made to witness the horrific deaths of their mothers.

Lelouch and Eren both awaken strange abilities that both save their lives and have the ability to do great harm while they are in grave danger. Although these characters gave their lives to uphold the greater good and bring peace to their respective worlds, they did so in very different ways and with very different goals in mind.
The themes of self-sacrifice and bringing the world together to fight a common enemy are undoubtedly shared by Attack on Titan and Code Geass. Given that fans may feel differently about either of the two, their plans and conclusions are subject to interpretation.
