Charlie Murphy is establishing herself as an exceptionally talented actress, having starred in projects like Halo, Peaky Blinders, and The Winter Lake. Her most recent and most well-known project happens to be her work with Richard Armitage in Netflix’s Obsession.
The story follows a young woman named Anna Barton, who falls for her fiance’s father, William Farrow. The actress gave an interview where she talked about her experience filming the series.
She revealed that by the end of the shooting, both she and her co-star, Richard Armitage, were covered in bruises. Despite this, she holds her experience on the show in very high regard. The reason for these feelings is interesting enough, the intimate scenes.
Charlie Murphy Got Badly Hurt When Working On Obsession
Charlie Murphy gave an interview with Reign with Josh Smith, where she talked about her experience working in her hit Netflix series, Obsession. She specifically revealed her experience filming the intimate scenes in the series. Being an adult series about a love affair between a father and his son’s fiancé and following the themes of S&M, there were more than a few scenes that required the two lead stars to be in these positions.
“We were covered, covered in bruises. There was no give in that hardwood – it was not great… My bruises were on my knees, my toes, elbows, all the bony bits!’
The actress revealed that filming these scenes for such a lengthy time, and the fact that they had a lot of aggressive movement, resulted in both her and Richard Armitage getting hurt. She revealed by the end of it, they were both covered in bruises. Frequently filming on hardwood, there was no way for them to avoid this, resulting in both the stars being hurt from head to toe.
Charlie Murphy Felt Very Safe On The Set Of Obsession
Charlie Murphy then went on to reveal that despite getting seriously hurt on the set of Obsession, she ended up loving the atmosphere of the production. The actress elaborated on this, stating that the intimacy coordinator on the series helped create clear-cut and definitive boundaries around the concept of consent.
“They set up the atmosphere of consent and boundaries. And we do a touch map all over our body and we would work through, ‘Okay, I’m happy being touched there. I’m happy being touched there, but not there.’ And it can be the side of your arm, it can be anything. We’re all just humans coming to set and we don’t know what someone’s been through or you know, what makes them uncomfortable.” said Charlie Murphy.
“I did feel very empowered because we had done the homework and I felt like, ‘Oh, I’m doing something as it’s supposed to have been done’.” added Charlie Murphy, “I’ve done a lot of sex scenes, nothing that I’ve ever been upset over, but sometimes at the end of the day, felt a tinge of regret or a tinge of, ‘oh God, that’s in the can and that’s out of my control now.’
There were a lot of conversations about what the actors were comfortable with happening and what they were not. There were also conversations about where they were okay being touched and where they were not. All of this helped the stars feel more comfortable about filming scenes that can easily be very uncomfortable to film.
