J.K. Simmons will go down in history as one of his generation’s greatest and most established actors. The legendary American actor has been in the industry for over four decades now and has had a very distinguished career. Although Simmons has appeared in over 200 movies and TV shows throughout his career, he is most well-known for his antagonist nature in supporting roles rather than his lead roles.

As J.K. Simmons turns 69 today, we will look at the actor’s most iconic roles throughout his career.
1. J.K. Simmons as Terence Fletcher in Whiplash
Back in 2014, J.K. Simmons decided to portray the role of an insanely strict and relentless jazz instructor in Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash which will arguably go down in history as the best performance of Simmons’ career. Miles Teller who played the role of Andrew Neiman, the protagonist of the movie also portrayed his role to absolute perfection leaving the fans at the edge of their seats on multiple occasions.
Simmons even went on to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Terence Fletcher.

2. J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man trilogy
J. Jonah Jameson is arguably the most famous role played by J.K. Simmons throughout his career. The American actor was first cast in the iconic role back in 2002 in the first movie of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.
In the movie, Tobey Maguire who portrayed the role of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man worked as a photographer for the Daily Bougie newspaper and Simmons portrayed the role of J. Jonah Jameson who considered Spider-Man a criminal and used to print news that made the protagonist of the movie look like a villain.
Simmons went on to reprise his role of the obnoxious publisher throughout the trilogy and even after the end of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy in multiple Marvel media and MCU movies.

3. William Frawley in Being the Ricardos
J.K. Simmons played the iconic role of William Frawley in the biographical drama movie, Being the Ricardos back in 2021 for which he received critical appreciation from the audience. In the movie, Simmons’ character, William Frawley managed to manipulate Lucille Ball her husband felt overshadowed by his wife’s involvement in some business aspects of their profession which led the character to make some reckless decisions.

4. B.R. in Thank You for Smoking
Inspired by his role in Spider-Man as J. Jonah Jameson, J.K. Simmons was cast in the role of a difficult and terrible boss yet again in Jason Reitman’s Thank You for Smoking. In the movie, Simmons portrays the role of the boss of Nick Naylor(Aaron Eckhart) who works for a huge tobacco company and is trying to figure out how to keep the industry alive as people are finally starting to figure out the side effects of smoking.

5. Mac MacGuff in Juno
The world saw a different side of J.K. Simmons’ characters when he decided to team up with Jason Reitman again in 2007 for the dramedy movie, Juno. The Burn After Reading actor who is popular for his roles as obnoxious and evil characters showed a completely different side when he portrayed the role of Mac MacGuff in Juno.
In the movie Juno, Elliot Page who portrays the role of the titular character accidentally gets pregnant as a teenager and Simmons portrays the role of a very loving and compassionate father who supports his daughter through pregnancy.
