Harrison Ford Burst Into Laughter Due to Mark Hamill’s Mistake

Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher starred in the original Star Wars trilogy that started with George Lucas‘ 1977 film. They have since reprised their roles in multiple films under the franchise. While they would have shared several memorable junctures working together on the series, one such moment was caught on camera during a 1980 interview with Ford and Hamill.

In a conversation where it seems like The Machine actor is talking about the future Star Wars films, he makes a mistake. However, a minor slip of the actor resulted in the Indiana Jones star breaking into laughter as he corrected his co-star.

Hamill explains, “The thing is, they go back after this trilogy and do 20 years earlier, young Alec Guinness (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and young Darth Vader.” He further stated that “our characters” would be just children, probably referring to the lead characters of the original trilogy, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo.

How Harrison Ford Landed the Role of Han Solo?

Before Harrison Ford landed the role of Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy, he had small parts in multiple TV shows and movies. Around the same time, he also worked as a carpenter and got the opportunity to work with George Lucas in the 1973 film American Graffiti.

Although he did not have many dialogues in the movie, it did give his acting career the boost it needed, and he landed a small role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation. However, George Lucas didn’t allow him to audition for the movie, as he reportedly did not want to feature any familiar face he had already worked with.

But as Ford read lines alongside the actors who auditioned for the role, Lucas found him way better and offered him the role of Han Solo. During an interview with CNN, Ford shared that if he wasn’t chosen for the role, “the other Han Solo would have been Chris (Christopher) Walken.” And the Blade Runner star also said that it would have been fantastic.

The Star Wars franchise is available on Disney+.
