In the novels, Harry Potter and his friends undertake the quest to find the Horcruxes when he learns that Voldemort split his soul into 7 pieces. In the end, Daniel Radcliffe’s hero realizes that he’s also a Horcrux that Voldemort didn’t mean to create. When Professor Snape gets killed by Nagini, he passes his memories to Harry, and the boy hero learns that he’s a Horcrux.

What if Snape hadn’t died? When was he going to tell Harry about his true nature then? It seems like it was a coincidence that the trio went to the docks, and afterward, Harry got the memories of Snape. So if the potion master hadn’t told the hero about it, he would have destroyed the Horcruxes and then found Voldemort still alive.

However, it’s possible that Alan Rickman’s Snape would have revealed the truth to Harry soon. There are theories that he was planning to do so after learning that Voldemort was keeping a watch over the snake. One hopes that the upcoming series will answer this question. But this isn’t the mystery related to the Horcruxes that fans have. There’s a popular Dursley Horcrux theory as well.

Horcruxes infect people who are in constant contact with them. This was seen when Ron and Dumbledore succumbed to their inner evil. So one famous fan theory states that this is why the Dursleys treated Harry cruelly. The evil of Voldemort that lived in Harry seeped out and infected his family.

So did the Dursleys keep Harry locked and away from them so that they could stay away from the evil? If this is true, then it would mean that the Dursleys aren’t innately evil. Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe did react to this theory. He said:

“Yeah, that’s definitely the first time I’ve heard that one. It’s definitely interesting because it sort of posits a world where these people only known to be a certain way. Actually if you remove him from the situation, [they] would have been quite a nice, friendly family.”

Will we ever get the answer to this question? Maybe J.K. Rowling will address some of the popular fan theories in the upcoming Harry Potter HBO Max show that she will be executive producing.

The Harry Potter films are available on HBO Max.
