Following Dwayne Johnson’s return to WWE in 2024, the whole scenario changed for good reason, as the company was trembling after CM Punk’s injury and Brock Lesner’s name indirectly appeared in one former WWE employee’s lawsuit against Vincent McMahon. After being appointed as a board member of TKO Holdings, Johnson is dead set to revive WWE ahead of Wrestle Mania 40.
After returning his baby face, Johnson soon turned to his infamous heel after starting a feud with Cody Rhodes.
Now, Johnson has joined Roman Reigns in a tag team match against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, who in particular has never played a main event at WrestleMania in his career.
Dwayne Johnson Joins Roman Reigns for WrestleMania 40 Match Against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins
After so many twists, the main event of WrestleMania 40 is now official. And it’s a huge match. Dwayne Johnson and Roman Reigns will come face-to-face with Cody Rhodes and Seth at the WrestleMania 40.
While there is less than one month to the main event, this week’s SmackDown brought this confirmation indicating that WWW WrestleMania 40 just got bigger. Cody Rhodes and world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins accepted the challenge given by The Rock for WrestleMania 40.
The Rock interrupted Rhodes and re-asserted that if on night one, Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes beat The Rock and Roman Reigns, on night two, they would be barred from the Bloodline. However, if The Rock and Reigns win, then the night 2 main event between Rhodes and Reigns for the WWE Universal title will be fought under Bloodline rules.
Triple H announced on Twitter that the tag team match is official for night one of WrestleMania. Now, it’s going to be one of the biggest tag team matches in WWE’s history. Meanwhile, The Rock, also as a member of the TKO board, made it clear that Cody Rhodes will never have another shot at the title if he loses at WrestleMania 40.
It is Seth Rollins’ First Time in WrestleMania Main Event
Seth Rollins won the Royal Rumble match in 2019, but he didn’t get to the main event of WrestleMania 35. And he was hurt that he had not headlined the main event.
Speaking to Steve Austin on Sports Guys Talk Wrestling, Seth Rollins recalled his feud with Brock Lesnar and was disappointed that he didn’t get the main event spot.
“You’ve got Roman Reigns, who’s on an incredible run, but you’ve got Cody Rhodes, who’s riding a lot of momentum. So when those two guys meet — if that is the match. It could be Sami Zayn in that spot. Who knows? We’ll see after [WWE Elimination Chamber]. It’s going to be a generational main event of WrestleMania. Again, hard for me to feel any way but slighted by it. So that is what it is.”
Rollins is considered one of the best wrestlers in WWE’s history, but it was quite surprising to know that he did not get the main event spot to date. But this, thanks to The Rock, he is in the headline.
