Today, ten films advanced in each of the three categories: sound, visual effects, and makeup and hairstyling. Godzilla Minus One, Takashi Yamazaki’s new film in TOHO’s Godzilla franchise, has been shortlisted for the Visual Effects category and this is the first time a Japanese film has made the shortlist for the Visual Effects award at the Academy Awards.

Also, Joe Hisaishi’s original score for Hayao Miyazaki’s film The Boy and the Heron is on the shortlist for the Music (Original Score) category. This is truly a great achievement for Godzilla minus one and especially for The Boy and The Heron as no anime films received nominations at the 95th Academy Awards.

Godzilla Minus One Nominated For Visual Effects Category

The movie Godzilla Minus One has been a huge hit at the box office, surpassing expectations in nearly every way, and it has received mostly favorable responses from critics. The recently released film, which was directed by Takashi Yamazaki, is a stand-alone production instead of a part of Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse.

The massive monster makes a reappearance in the wake of World War II, which may be the worst possible time for the attack. This gives a unique spin to the series. Toho is the production company behind the creation of the titular kaiju. With over $70.7 million in box office receipts worldwide to date, Godzilla Minus One has had an incredibly successful run.
