Elon Musk nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for ‘stout proponent for free speech’

According to reports by the NY Post, a Norwegian lawmaker, Marius Nilsen who is a member libertarian Progress Party and a parliament member has proposed the name of Elon Musk for the Nobel Peace Prize. The report mentioned that the name was put forward because of Musk’s adamant defense of dialogue, and free speech, and continuing to express his views in the polarized world.

Nilsen appreciated the CEO of Tesla for providing Starlink satellite, operated by Space X for the Internet connectivity that helped the soldiers in Ukraine at the time of Russia’s invasion of the country. He pointed out that it had indeed helped Ukraine in communicating, coordinating, and withstanding the attack from Russia at the time. Talking further he explained;

“The multitude of tech companies Musk has founded, owns or runs, aimed at bettering societies, increasing knowledge of both earth and space, in addition to enabling communication and connectivity globally…has helped make the world a more connected and safer place.”

According to Daily Mail which was the first to report the news of Musk’s nomination the Norwegian Nobel Committee decides the winner of the award from the list of various other nominations. The committee reportedly also accepts nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize from Government Officials and people in academia.

With his nomination for the Peace Prize, Musk now joins the list of conservationists, journalists, religious leaders, political activists, and famous actors. The publication noted that the final nominees will be selected in March with results being announced in October.

The most recent recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize is Narges Mohammadi; an Iranian human rights activist. She was honored for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her continuous fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.

An X user added, ‘No other man in this century deserves it more than him. If they could give it to people like Malala, Obama, he deserves it 1000x more if based on positive impact on humanity.’

People on X called him ‘man of the year,’ with a few mentioning that they were surprised that it hadn’t happened before. According to Politico, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is also one of the people nominated for the prize and was nominated by Sofie Marhaug; a Norwegian MP from left-wing Red Party.
