Matt Shakman’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie is all that people can talk about. After Marvel dropped the official cast announcement on Valentine’s Day, fans are now hoping to know more about the titular villain in the film. According to Jeff Sneider, it has been reported that Doctor Doom won’t be having a major role.
Alleged reports suggest that Galactus might be set to appear as the titular villain in Pedro Pascal’s Fantastic Four. Further, it has also been reported that Marvel is planning to turn Galactus into the next big baddie after the death of Thanos. But unfortunately, according to fans, the decision sounds like bad news, due to valid reasons.
Galactus Might be the Next Thanos Replacement in the MCU
With Matt Shakman’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie making headlines following the announcement of their official cast, fans are now excited to know about the main villain. Previously it was deemed that Doctor Doom would appear as the titular villain in the movie, but currently, according to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Doom won’t make his MCU debut until the end of the movie.
Therefore, it seems, Doctor Doom isn’t going to be the ultimate nemesis in the upcoming 2025 movie. This makes fans curious as to which comic book baddie will be the titular supervillain in the film. Addressing fans’ concerns, alleged reports surfaced on the internet claiming that Galactus is reportedly expected to be the main antagonist in Pedro Pascal’s Fantastic Four.
Jeff Sneider previously reported that Javier Bardem was Marvel’s top choice for the role of Galactus in November 2023, although the news is yet to be confirmed by the studio. Additionally, new reports teased big plans for Galactus, as it was suggested that Marvel might be planning to turn the character into a notable replacement for Thanos.
Fans Have Valid Reasons to Criticize Marvel’s Alleged Decision
The alleged reports of turning Galactus into a saga villain and the next big baddie in MCU didn’t sit well with fans. Netizens who recently overcame Thanos’ brutality in 2019, resulting in Iron Man’s sacrifice, are not happy with Marvel’s alleged decision. Calling out the studio for choosing a planet-eating character to be the next best Thanos, fans expressed their concerns on X and Reddit.
Although few believe that the Devourer of Worlds himself, Galactus is a good choice since he is the mastermind who could easily threaten the MCU, most are against the decision claiming that Galactus isn’t technically a villain. The character can’t be traditionally defined as a villain, since as per comics, even Reed Richards argued that Galactus is not driven by evil intent.
As per the classic Fantastic Four story The Trial of Reed Richards by the legendary John Byrne, Reed Richards saves the Devourer of Worlds despite the character eating planets. Therein, Reed claims that Galactus has been tending to its most basic needs. He’s hungry, he eats planets. He’s no more a villain than a predator eating its prey in the food cycle. Thus, turning him into the next best baddie or a successor to Thanos doesn’t seem like the best idea.
“saga villain” “build up” bro he fucking Eats Planets. the only build up you can even do is the silver surfer showing up to be like “bad news fellas. he’s gonna eat the planet.” https://t.co/aPZLR05FhS

I hope they nail something essential about Galactus: he’s not evil. He’s not good either. He’s ESSENTIAL to the universe. He consumes life so the universe can make more and defends the universe from bigger threats. He doesn’t like killing people, but he’s gotta eat. https://t.co/oRdaNQhJvL

On one hand: I’d prefer a smaller villain like Mole Man so we can really get to know the team.
On the other: Galactus ain’t a “saga” villain. He’s scary because much like a hurricane, he just shows up https://t.co/oRdaNQhJvL— Gunner Dobbins (2nd Invincible Era) (@GunnerDobbins) February 16, 2024
Galactus isn't even a villain. He only eats planets so the universe doesn't get cancer. It's a thankless job but someone has to do it https://t.co/zyMB6JjhTk

Galactus would be a horrible choice for the next Big Bad Evil Guy

Most importantly, as per fans’ opinions and valid reasons, there’s a big difference between Thanos’ master plan and Galactus bringing destruction. Galactus is not a scheming baddie unlike Thanos, most importantly he’s not a force of evil just because he is the biggest guy on the top of the universal food chain. Therefore, turning him into a threat just for Pedro Pascal‘s Fantastic Four sounds fine, but calling him Thanos’ successor in the MCU doesn’t sound like the perfect plan.
