The fifth part will act as the finale of one of the most renowned Hollywood franchises of all time. After the fourth movie failed to mimic the reception received by the past movies, plans for a fifth movie were put to a halt. But as The Dial of Destiny is ready to meet the audiences in the theaters, the early feedbacks weren’t as expected.

What did Harrison Ford say on Indiana Jones 5?

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull couldn’t impress the audience and ended up being a non-memorable venture even after being a financial success. Steven Spielberg who directed the first four movies in the franchise also denied to return once again which made it inevitable for the film’s fate to receive a different direction.

James Mangold’s association with the lore of the iconic archeologist intrigued many, especially after he gave films like Logan. The movie marked the return of Harrison Ford to his role after more than a decade along with great Hollywood faces like Mads Mikkelsen and Antonio Banderas. But the early receptions from the premiere showed a lukewarm response towards the movie.

Interestingly, Ford’s views towards the movie don’t match that of the reviews after the actor only had praises for the Indiana Jones 5 director. According to him, the script not only met the expectations of the 80-year-old actor and Spielberg but also acted as a great extension of the existing story.

“We had a lot of discussions about what the story might be. But James had crafted a script that didn’t just meet Steven’s or my ambition, he also managed to deliver a complex, fun family movie that plays out like a logical extension to what we had built before.”

Harrison Ford also added that he loved working on this movie and loved how the character was shown in the last installment of the saga. On the other hand, Mangold also presented his take on the reception shown to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

James Mangold already had a huge task on his shoulders when he signed up to fill in the shoes of one of the best directors. Steven Spielberg has created movies that are etched in the minds of the audiences and making Indiana Jones 5 was not an easy task for the Ford v Ferrari director.

During the premiere of the film, the critics were divided in their reception. A lot of them stood for the farewell given to our beloved Indy, while the rest claimed that it fails to match the other movies in the saga. Replying to it, Mangold stated:

“When you’re in franchise land, it’s very hard for critical thinkers to overlook what I’m sure their editors want, which is this business prism of how does it rate to the other ones? I always thought if I were second or third best to one of the greatest films of all time, I’d be good. I mean, it all vaporizes later. Either the movie will live or it won’t.”

Moreover, Mangold’s direction and the performance of the lead received praise, unlike the overall quality that was deemed low compared to the past installments. The upcoming flick will pit Indiana Jones alongside his estranged goddaughter Helena Shaw played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge on the hunt for a mysterious device that is also being desired by another Nazi baddie played by Mikkelsen.
