Timothée Chalamet is one actor who has shown range in the most tremendous and marvelous way possible. From playing Willy Wonka to Paul Atreides, his skills as an actor can easily captivate the audience. It is not only his talent but also the way he presents himself that often attracts some of the biggest actors and directors.
Amongst them were Denis Villeneuve and James Cameron. Filmmakers who have often inspired others to pursue directing. To have impressed such respected directors is easily a big feat. However, it was not his acting skills alone that he managed to do so. In such a manner, his looks played a big role. Not exactly his looks, but the maturity he has in his face.
What Made Denis Villeneuve Cast Timothée Chalamet?
When Denis Villeneuve opened up about working with Timothée Chalamet, he could not stop gushing over how wonderful of an actor he is. While conversing with James Cameron in an interview with Variety, the director explained just what brought him towards the actor.
“He was my only choice in my mind for several reasons. First of all because of his acting chops. I mean that he’s a really solid, young actor. He has a old soul, he’s very mature. At the same time he looks tremendously young on screen. Paul Atreides is supposed in the book to be sixteen years old or something like that. So I needed someone who looked like an old teenager who is about to become a man.”
He expressed how there was no other option outside of Chalamet to take over the role of Paul Atreides in Dune. According to him, his maturity in a face that otherwise looked so young was exactly what his role needed. For someone to look like a young boy becoming a man. The Little Women actor fit the criteria perfectly and because of that. Villeneuve had no other option.
James Cameron Thinks Timothée Chalamet Has a Feminine Energy
In the same Variety interview, Denis Villeneuve and James Cameron went on to talk about how Timothée Chalamet has one unique feature that captivates the audience more so than not. Both the directors agreed that the actor had a feminine energy that was subtly mixed with his acting. It made him feel like a talented and experienced actor.
“He has a female energy.”
Villeneuve even confirms that Chalamet’s entire persona is something he viewed Frank Herbert’s vision of Paul Atreides to be. Even in his own perspective, Paul and Chalamet coincide with their growth and feminine energy.
