Brad Pitt and Bradley Cooper are regarded as two of the most successful and talented actors in the entertainment industry. Despite never co-starring in a movie together, the two actors have remained close friends over the years and have always shared a mutual admiration for each other’s work.
Pitt and Cooper not only respect and admire each other’s work but also have managed to help each other in a way to get sober. Brad Pitt recently presented Bradley Cooper with the award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Pitt went ahead to share who is thinks should win the Academy Award for Best Actor this year.
Brad Pitt calls Bradley Cooper’s Maestro ‘masterpiece’
Actor and close friend of Bradley Cooper Brad Pitt showed up at Santa Barbara International Film Festival to present an award Outstanding Performer of the Year to Cooper. Cooper was honored for his exceptional work as Leonard Bernstein in Maestro, which he also directed and co-wrote.
Pitt while giving his speech for Cooper joked that they have a couple of things in common which is that they are movie superstars and also their names. Pitt went ahead to explain via THR how he knew that Cooper had something special about him after he watched The Hangover,
“You’ll see the more irreverent that Alan gets, the more that Phil is enjoying that irreverence. It’s subtle. It’s often to the side of the frame, but it’s there and it’s interesting, and I know this sounds strange, but I was watching that and I know no one else would have brought that to the table. And it was something fresh. I knew this guy was going to be around.”
Brad Pitt called Bradley Cooper’s Maestro ‘masterwork’ and described a particular scene where Cooper and Carey Mulligan as alive, kinetic and so natural. He said that it’s very difficult to achieve that and it takes great actors and great construction to achieve that.
Bradley Cooper has been nominated at the Academy Awards 2024 for Best Actor for his performance and Best Original Screenplay for Maestro which he shares with co-writer Josh Singer. Brad Pitt during his speech at SBIFF noted that he is hoping for his dear friend to win the award for the masterpiece. He said,
“He’s been nominated 12 times and I really, really, hope that this is his year, because he’s willing, but if it’s not, it’s okay, everyone knows it’s just a matter of time.”
Brad Pitt went on to make a joke about the probability of the actor not winning by saying that he’s used to it because he’s a Philadelphia Eagles Fan. There is a lot of buzz that Cillian Murphy is probably going to win the Oscars for his work in Oppenheimer.
Bradley Cooper says it’s a privilege to be working for 25 years
Cooper upon accepting his award shared that movies have changed his life and kept him alive adding that he feels that it’s such a privilege and he cannot believe he gets to do it. The actor added that he feels blessed by mentioning that living is hard and it feels like it gets harder and he needs people who love him and he can love them.
Bradley Cooper continued,
“It’s all about community. And I know that without community I would never attempt to achieve the things that I’ve attempted without people that have believed in me in ways that I never believed in myself. I can list 50 of them right now, who believed in me and gave me a chance.”
During an interview with Deadline, Cooper was asked about directing to which he said that people have got to hold onto the good things because there is so much rejection in the business. He added that he loves being in the field of direction and acting adding that is what’s intoxicating about it.
He was reminded of his Oscar performance with Lady Gaga and stated that he had no intentions or desire to sing live on network television. He said it was because he knew that if he didn’t sing, people would comment that he obviously could not sing because he wasn’t doing it adding that it was awesome.
