Alaqua Cox’s Echo arrived for streaming on Disney+ on January 9, and certainly despite being a miniseries, it couldn’t help but shake up the MCU with its decent and intertwined plot. From beginning to end, even with its fine post-credit scene, the show shook fans and the entire Marvel Universe.
Following Echo’s post-credit scene hinting at Kingpin running for Mayor, the storyline changed the entire future of the MCU. Creating an epic connection, the showy flawlessly set up the appearance of Kingpin in Daredevil: Born Again. Not just that, it also sparked a wild fan theory that suggests the return of one major defender in the upcoming Daredevil TV series.
Echo‘s Post-Credit Scene Connects Kingpin With Daredevil: Born Again
With a rocky start followed by a rather satisfying takeover of Alaqua Cox‘s new MCU series, Echo created quite the buzz since its release on January 9. Focusing on the story of how Maya Lopez aka Echo connects with her Native American roots and plans to take down Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin’s empire, the series seemingly built up a connection with Daredevil: Born Again.
By the end of the show, during the post-credit scenes, Echo hinted at the looming issue of how New York City is left with no clear frontrunner for the heated mayoral election. It then focuses on Kingpin who is sitting in his private plane as this news flashes, therefore hinting at the Devil’s Reign storyline that is going to be the blueprint of Daredevil: Born Again.
In the Devil’s Reign storyline, Kingpin becomes the elected Mayor of New York City, who then brings his full criminal and political power to outlaw the superheroes by declaring them vigilantes. With his army of supervillains at his command, Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin first takes down Daredevil, and then turns his wrath on The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and other superheroes who call New York their home.
Daredevil: Born Again Might Feature the Return of a Major Defender
Although official story details haven’t been revealed by Marvel, an early synopsis of Daredevil: Born Again did hint at Wilson Fisk’s mayoral run via ScreenRant. Thus, with Echo’s post-credit scene hinting at the same thing, it sets a clear connection with Matt Murdock’s upcoming Daredevil project. With fans becoming clear about MCU’s direction, they come up with a wild theory.
Stating how Devil’s Reign featured a major rival of Kingpin, fans believe Daredevil: Born Again might bring back that very defender. Fan theories seemingly hint at the return of Fisk’s biggest rival, Luke Cage, in the upcoming TV series. According to Marvel‘s Devil’s Reign, Luke Cage not only works with the superheroes but also tries to get Kingpin’s corrupt and malicious law revoked.
FOR WILSON FISK***

If the fan theory comes true, then according to the Devil’s Reign storyline that Daredevil: Born Again will follow, Wilson Fisk will be forced to flee the city, and Luke Cage will win the election by default and become the elected Mayor of New York. This plotline on the one hand will again make Marvel interesting to watch, but on the other hand, it might make the show go political with a Black man standing for mayor.
