In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, The Family Plan actor talked about his breakthrough film. During the course of the story, Wahlberg remembered Burt Reynolds and how it wasn’t a good film for the veteran actor since Reynolds felt that “the role was beneath him“!

“It wasn’t so much that Paul [Thomas Anderson] was dishing out. He [Burt Reynolds] wasn’t in a good way. He was the biggest movie star in the world for over a decade and then all of a sudden, he just felt like it was all beneath him.”

Wahlberg further continued,

“You know, he didn’t really understand the potential of this movie. It was um… obviously set in the world of p*rnography. But it had some very interesting characters”

In a separate interview, Wahlberg talked about how he would very much love to return to movies like Boogie Nights even now. Stating that he doesn’t want to pigeonhole himself, Wahlberg stated that if the right script comes, he would gladly jump onto it!

“Listen, if the right script comes, I don’t rule anything out. But I do enjoy doing things that the whole entire family can see. Look, I’m 52 years old now. I’m a dad of four. I’ve got a kid in college. I like playing age-appropriate roles.”

He further continued,

“I think a lot of people don’t embrace that and audiences are like — this doesn’t seem real. I want to do things that are believable and realistic.”

Well, we would surely like to see Mark Wahlberg return in a comedic role much like Boogie Nights once again. The 1997 film received a grand rating of 7.9/10 on IMDB and a whopping 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Boogie Nights is available to rent on Apple TV+ in the U.S.
